  1. Review - Avira Free Antivirus

    9.0.0.394 (Apr 29, 2009)

Not sure why Antivir has such high ratings.
The free version is extremely annoying with its "buy now" popups.
    Downloading updates is very slow.
The free version is only free for a few months and then the subscription runs out. What's with this?

On the plus side, protection was ok.

I've went back to Avast, happily.

  2. Review - PeaZip for Windows (Portable)

    2.2 (Aug 14, 2008)

This is the ideal tool for those with flash and external hard drives. Keep it on each device.
I use it mainly for security purposes. It will archive and encrypt a large folder in .pea format very fast. Try this with other tools and see how long it takes.
Of course, it handles most, if not every other format, well too.
Pea replaced 7zip, Izarc, and Axcrypt on my windows systems.

I'm using the debian package. Works a charm. Love the passphrase protection available in the .pea format.

  4. Review - Debian

    4.0r1 (Aug 18, 2007)

Debian is the premier linux operating system.

It has grandchildren and great grandchildren. Some of these are Ubuntu, Mepis, Sidux, Kanotix, Mint, Dreamlinux, Elive, and Linspire. I'm only naming a few of the most popular - there are many more.

No other linux operating system approaches Debian in available software.

Debian pioneered the popular and indispensible tools called apt-get and synaptic. These tools make upgrades and software management a breeze.

5 out of 5? You bet.

  5. Review - KDE Software Compilation

    4.0 Alpha 1 (May 12, 2007)

KDE desktop environment is found in many flavours of linux.
It is the easiest and most comfortable to use for those familiar with Windows.
Most linux users also prefer KDE with Gnome following.
The power and configurability of Kde is awesome.
It comes with a full suite of programs that will handle most needs including download manager, games, office, mail client, and on and on.
In fact, I'm writing this via KDE in Sidux linux.
