  1. Review - GigaTribe

    2.33 Test (Apr 30, 2007)

    Works great for me...

  2. Comment - DRM-free Music Arrives on iTunes

    2.33 Test (May 31, 2007 - 10:13 AM)

Wow, this thread taught me one thing at least, that if I right click on an mp3 in my collection I can find (and change) all sorts of information on the track...neat!

In any case, DRM is so over as seier pointed out...plus now consumers have encrypted file-sharing options at their disposal (see http://www.gigatribe.com for example), so there's no preventing people from sharing tunes freely over the web.

  3. Comment - Warner Wants MP3s Off of AnywhereCD

    2.33 Test (Apr 16, 2007 - 9:14 AM)

Warner needs to face reality. Consumers want DRM-free music, and they don't want to pay a ridiculous price for it either. With brick/morter music retailers gone, they should be passing the savings along to musicians and consumers and reducing prices all at the same time.
Otherwise, people are going to keep swapping music with each other, especially now that there are a bunch of encrypted file-sharing apps popping up left and right (see http://www.gigatribe.com for an example).
However, I'll give Warner kudos for signing Van Halen back in the 70's; that's the last intelligent thing they've done!

  4. Comment - iTunes to Offer EMI's DRM-free Music

    2.33 Test (Apr 4, 2007 - 6:35 AM)

This is a great move on EMI's part, and will give them an ever so temporary competitive advantage over the others. Consumers who know any better will simply not tolerate DRM. The environment is especially tricky nowadays now that consumers (especially European ones) seem to have caught on to encrypted and private file sharing (see http://www.gigatribe.com for an example). The record companies, who now sell directly to consumers, absolutely must lower prices if they want to stay in business. They've eliminated all of the distribution middlemen now it's time to split the savings with the consumers.

  5. Comment - IHT: Major Label to Embrace MP3 Soon?

    2.33 Test (Jan 24, 2007 - 4:51 AM)

DRM is a joke...any kid can turn a song with DRM into an mp3. Labels need to lower prices of albums/songs and sell direct to consumers. The middle man is slowly dying; this is good because frankly, when I went to Tower Records, the heavy metal selection there was just pathetic. Brick and Mortar is dead, and so should be the middleman's cut of the pie.

Also, The RIAA's efforts against file sharing are soon going to be a thing of the past with all of these new softwares that offer encrypted exchanges. Look at GigaTribe for instance (http://www.gigatribe.com), their free software lets users exchange entire folders of albums in a few easy clicks, and not even the ISPs will be able to spot what's being exchanged.

The music model is changing rapidly, and consumers and small/medium artists are going to be the winners.
