   The biggest problem I have with the newer DivX builds (8.0 and above) is that it wants to phone home no matter what (even if you disable the update) the thing is it phones home when the ax is loaded ie when ever I open an avi file my firewall blocks divx.ax and the bugger freezes the video player for about half a minute, this was good years ago now it's just spyware, there are better alternatives like ffdshow,

   Review - DivX for Linux

   DivX for Linux is an asp mpeg4 de(en)coder that comes as a shared object (dynamic library) that no application uses, in other words totally useless, there are a few open source alternatives for Linux: XviD and ffmpeg come to mind, and these so's are used by most video applications like Xine or Totem.
