  1. Review - Diskeeper 2011 Professional

    13.0.835-t (Dec 26, 2008)

This is not a product review, but rather a review on the company.

Recently, Diskeeper has been accused of forcing their employees to either take part in Scientology training, or be laid off. Regardless if it's Scientology, Christianity, Buddhism, or any other belief, this is discrimination and is not acceptable from any corporation.

  2. Review - ICE ECC

    2.6 (Nov 27, 2008)

I just discovered this program yesterday and I already love it. This program creates a recovery record for a set of files, so if any of the files ever becomes corrupted, you can repair the corrupted data.
I was amazed by how well this program works. I tried it on some files, I purposely deleted some of the files, and this program recovered them all 100% intact.
I make a recovery record for every one of my backups now.

  3. Review - Shred Agent

    1.2 (Sep 19, 2008)

    Pros:
Nice idea for a shredding program. It runs in the background and automatically shreds files as they're deleted. Pretty fast and light on resources.

    Cons:
The program costs $70 (FileForum has the wrong price). Quite expensive for such a simple idea, and an interface made for Windows 98.
NTFS is a complicated file system, and there are lots of ways for leaks to happen which this program doesn't pick up. Leaks can be caused by defragmenters, compressed files, and simply resizing files, and possibly other ways I don't know of.
By default, the program writes to a log file, a big NO for privacy. There's no way to prevent it from listing the files it shreds in the main window. No option to disable the tray icon.

This program still needs a lot of work before I would consider purchasing it.

  4. Review - SUMo

    1.4.0.33 (Jan 17, 2008)

This is the best update checker I've used by far. I have several stand-alone utilities, and this can check for updates for all of them by simply dragging them into the application. It is also very accurate, much better than UpdateStar. I have over 200 programs listed, and it has never been wrong when it said that an update was available.
