  1. Review - Beyond Compare

    3.3.1.13971 (Aug 16, 2011)

I wish it would support SFTP or FTP over SSH. I did not use BC very much except when inspecting colleague's listings, but I always got great results and it saved me hours of work. But the support of sftp would be good, as all our servers have ftp turned off by default.

  2. Review - Calibre

    0.7.28 (Nov 16, 2010)

I use Calibre mainly to retrieve the RSS feeds from news sites such as BetaNews. I had some problems with the user interface, but this is mainly a UI issue, and the way I can enter the feed and manage them. Once, with a previous version, I had a problem where the device completely reset itself. But I am not ready to blame Calibre.

  3. Review - AutoPuTTY

    0.24.1 (May 6, 2010)

Nice application. I use it for PuTTY and for RDP, I would like to get another option, that would be for launching NX, FreeNX, or other similar clients. PuTTY and RDP are my main two terminal connection, but I use NX servers more and more.

I've been using this program for over a year now and it's always been great. I also very much like the timestamp changing and syncing feature.

    Go vi !!!

For my needs of file editing, I still prefer to use the good old vi. Works everywhere, has powerful features, and works in a terminal environment, which is most of the servers that I manage today. I learned vi 22 years ago, and I still use it. Sometime gedit is a good tool, especially for UTF-8 files, but vi remains my favorite tool so far.

Any idea about the IP(s) that it is calling ? I guess I could find this somewhere on the net. This is because we may want to block all of this on our corporate firewall. I work in IT Security, and by nature I don't trust microsoft.
