  1. Review - Advanced SystemCare Free

    2 (Sep 27, 2006)

I fix quite a lot of computers for my friends.
and many come in with "garbages, forgotten temp
files of multiple users, spyware, adware, etc.
    Recently I installed Advanced WindowsCare
    into such troublesome computers.
There is a guy who brings his computer almost
every month (saying windows is sluggish, some programs don't work...) I have not heard from him for some time after I installed Advanced WindosCare.

  2. Review - Unlocker

    1.8.5 (Sep 8, 2006)

Good product except "upgrade" process for a newer
version. Why unlocker cannot unhook its own dll,
when unlocker is closed or upgrade process started.
Uninstall older version, leaving dlls in
program folder and reboot and install new one
does not make sense when file name is unlocker.

  3. Review - ReNamer

    4.00 (Jul 23, 2006)

Fair to good. But it has been giving access violation problems even with v 4.1 ( 4.0 was OK
and 3.2 was OK.) Renamer uses ini file. "ini" file created by renamer when used first time.
If this ini file exists in the folder ( and of course it exists as it creates it by itself.)
it gives access violation. And if you delete ini
and double clikc renamer.exe, voi la, no access violation. And you specify several items and it
adds information into ini file, then, when you
use renamer.exe next time, access violation.
Good thing is that the author has FORUM.

  4. Review - DivX for Windows

    6.2.1 (Apr 16, 2006)

    Apparently they fixed compatibility issue
with TMPGEnc. I just installed 6.21 and
tested encoding. Unlike 6.2, (which freezes
TMPGEnc), Encoding started it like V6.11.

I can't say anything about quality until I
    see the encoded result.

  5. Review - DivX for Windows

    6.2 (Apr 13, 2006)

Unlike 6.113, this final version has conflicts
    with TMPGEnc XPress v3.0.3.24.
Encoding does not happen. (aka it virtually
kills encoding. Cancel Encode does not even work.
You must kill process from Taskmanager)

    I went back to 6.113.

  8. Comment - Whistler Security Cracked

    6.2 (Jan 19, 2001 - 10:22 PM)

Crack is only for 30 day expiration, isn't it ?
The major problem might be the security measure, like finger print..that is going to be a huge trouble for many people.
As there is no way of knowing what Microsoft had done, if one needs to
install and reinstall Whistler, one might not be able to do so...as
Whistler thinks that OS must belong to one machine-already finger printed. I do install and reinstall Windows or NT so many times....
(Some stupid (lack of better words)programs do really kill Operating System..and only way to get windows back in business is to reformat a hard disk and install OS. This might cause the security measure not to accept CD keys. Or If I upgrade motherboard/Processor, OS might think that it is a new computer.
I really don't understand what Microsoft is thinking about.........
And OS must be activated through internet connection..... so, if your ISP is down during installation, you cannot use it.

  9. Comment - Opera Hits 2 Million Downloads

    6.2 (Jan 12, 2001 - 10:46 AM)

1: yes you can set ..let's say Japanese..and put Ms. gothic (japanese) as main font. Then, Opera is forced to use MS Gothic to render every single page whether if is English, French, Spanish or
Japanese. Thus, some characters go wild ..let's say in English.
Where did this MS Gothic come from? It used to be.... from the IE's additonal foreign language support. In real OS, like Windows 2000, it comes with Windows 2000 CD..if you go to Keyboard as well as Foreign Language setting. All you must do is to (x) Japanese support.
and even specify keyboard. (then, IME is going to kick in...and you can write Japanese Characters to the web pages or write email in outlook express.)
2: Also if you used this workaround technique, it becomes impossible to read a line. I.e. instead of 80 characters per line, for example, it just continues. Thus, you must use a side scroll bar.
What does it mean? Formatting by that web page will be igonred.
3: Yes. I can understand English, Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin),Spanish
    and French.
4: I have quite a lot of friends outside US, residing in Asia, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Paris, London, etc.
5: If you can read old comments of Opera, you might find that I wrote this workaround. But this is just a workaround if you must do so.
If your OS is Japanese, and if you installed Opera, and specified Japanse in Preferences, it works. but Rendering is still terrible.
5: Any way, official statement of Opera is and has been the same on
doublebyte or unicode since the first version of Opera.
So if you speak and understand only one language....let's say English and if you don't need to read unicode languages, you can use Opera.
Then, why bother ? Internet Explorer is already there. If you like multiple windows, Netcaptor is much better. (which by the way, I am a beta tester of Netcaptor.)

6: If your OS is WinMe or Windows 2000, IE files are already on CD...there is no need to download anything.
7: Speed.....I don't see any significant difference any more. It was true when Opera version 1 was introduced.
8: Usability...I cannot find any good point over Netcaptor. Netcaptor
(aka simulbrowser)listens and add features on every build. For ecxample. If you join several bids on Ebay, or Ubid..and keep your bids on each tab (windows), Netcaptor will give you Refresh All button. This is one good feature.
9: Some web pages do not show properly or none at all....this is typical to Opera...even with an installation of whopping 7 mb Java run time. What does opera do ? Nothing...I repeat nothing.
10: I was a fan of Opera when it was introduced...but Opera did not catch up with the times.

  10. Comment - Opera Hits 2 Million Downloads

    6.2 (Jan 10, 2001 - 11:51 AM)

I am writing this from Opera Version 5.0.
    Fast, Free... who cares ?
    1: Internet means Global Communication.
2: Opera cannot handle international languages. If you visit Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Russian web pages for information, Opera shows you
garbages. Instead, Internet Explorer shows all. Netscape 6 shows all.
Netcaptor shows all. How about Opera? Just garbages.

If they REALLY KNOW WHAT THE INTERNET IS ALL ABOUT, they must support
uinicode, double byte languages. And if their attitude never changes,
just a promise.......since the very early stage of Beta, what do you
    expect ?

This is their reply since early days of Opera..and it never changes.
    unicode, languages
Currently, Opera does not support unicode, the technology needed to automatically switch between and show some character sets for languages such as Russian, Polish, Greek, Hebrew, Japanese, and Chinese. We have begun implementing this feature for inclusion in a future version of Opera.
