  1. Review - foobar2000

    0.8.2 (Jul 23, 2004)

0.8.3 available at http://www.saunalahti.fi/cse/foobar2000.php . No changelog yet. Matroska problems in 0.8.2 was fixed with v. 0.6 of foo_matroska

  2. Review - Quintessential Media Player

    4.51 (Jul 23, 2004)

kevinz: Laugh as much as you want. Why would you want video playback in an audio app anyways? Haven't tested QCD's videoplayback, but does it support matroska? stream switching? rescaling the image(for encodings in 4:3 that should have been 16:9 etc)? I use Mediaplayer Classic for video playback, and it works great. Just as foobar works great for audio.

  3. Review - Quintessential Media Player

    4.50 Development Build 81 (Apr 30, 2004)

Well, it works. As usual... I'm not a big fan of skins and all that. I like a clean and simple interface... Less is more in some cases :) I'll stick with Foobar2000 since it has all the features i need, and more, in a lightweight package. But for the skin-loving crowd, Quint is very nice. atleast i like it better than winamp. btw, does it have replaygain support? winamp has, using in_mpg123.dll from http://www3.cypress.ne.jp/otachan/in_mpg123.html
maybe it could be used in quint too...

  4. Review - foobar2000

    0.8.1 Beta 3 (Mar 31, 2004)

The light version isn't any more "heavy" than the special installer... it just comes with more stuff... all of which you can choose to install or not install during installation. So you can make excatly the same installation using the "lite" version as you can with the "special" version. Foobar2k is really great... been using it since v6.beta something, and it has never let me down... startup times are around 200ms, so its really lightweight too! 5 stars, easily

  5. Review - Mp3 Tag Assistant Professional

    1.0 Beta 6 (Mar 29, 2004)

I haven't actually used this program yet(shame on me), but I noticed on the webpage "Mp3 Tag Assistant version 1.x beta x is distributed free of charge." so it looks like it might become payware later... I must say from the screenshots it looks interesting, and i will take it for a testdrive after i write this. But really, I do all my tagging using either "tag" with frontend (http://home.wanadoo.nl/~w.speek/tag.htm) and foobar2000 (www.foobar2000.org). Both which is also free. I dont see why i need anything else. With plugins available, foobar2000 does id3v1, id3v2, APEv2 and vorbis tags, and also has a freedb lookup feature which works great (this also through plugin). The builtin masstagger is also exelent. But... this isn't a foobar2k review... I will write more about this(MP3 Tag Assistant), after i try it(if I feel it's better than the previously mentioned programs in any way.)
