  1. Review - HardDriveIndicator

    1.27 (Apr 3, 2006)

Haven't tried this yet, so I will rate neutrally. However, after looking at the website, I thought I should mention technically this is not shareware. There is a link for an optional donation. I think this would be better labeled as either free, or donationware, if there is that category. I personally have no use for such a tool, however if you have a system that does not have a HD LED, it might come in handy.

  2. Review - PSPad editor

    4.5.0 Build 2183 (Feb 15, 2006)

This is a great program, I have been using it for quite a while.

    For SuzzyWoozy and Kramy:
The latest versions of 7-zip do support cab files, albeit extract only.
I have used it to extract the files without any problems. Looking at the 7-zip website I think cab support has been in 7-zip since the 4.31 release, which would have been December 4th of 2005.

  3. Review - NSIS (Nullsoft Scriptable Install System)

    2.14 (Jan 24, 2006)

Although targeted mainly towards the developer audience, it does not take much to learn how to use this. One tool that is useful is NIS Edit, which even has a wizard for creating a simple installer.

Also I suspect that the whole spyware idea comes from those that are less informed about the idea of installers. I have seen many applications that are bundled with spyware, who do use NSIS for their installer. This does not mean that NSIS comes with spyware. This type of thing could just as easily be done with Inno Setup, or any other installer.

  4. Review - Locate

    3.0 Beta 5 (2.99.5.12181) (Jan 6, 2006)

This program typically works very well, I would recommend giving it a second chance, but with one of their official betas.
The version that is on BetaNews is a Daily release so it may be much more unstable.
The latest version on the website is.
    2.99.5.10100
    It is very stable.

  5. Review - FreePOPs for Windows

    0.0.27 Beta (Apr 11, 2005)

I have also used this for quite a while with no problems. Also the configuration is done through several config files or command line parameters, and not through the system tray icon. The icon is there simply to show that it is running. Perhaps in the future they will implement that functionality, but the system is actually very easy to use.
