1.1.1 installed fine... every time i try to run it:

    runtime error 217 at 0052accc

  2. Review - mIRC Power Pack

    8.00 RC6 (Mar 29, 2006)

see scan.png in the main folder, clamwin consistently STILL reports 0, count 'em ZERO, infections.

most of the files included in mpp have been there for years. only recently have scanners such as avast or norton antivirus started reporting possible problems.

i have never been made aware of any known exploits for mpp. any files that are detected can be quarantined at your discretion without having any major negative impact to the normal usage of mpp.

  3. Review - Mozilla Firefox (v2) for Windows

    1.0.4 RC (May 11, 2005)

ie vs firefox... god who cares. use whatever you want.

anyway, does anyone know if this release candidate fixes the two new security flaws? there are no notes for changes here on betanews, and no mention at mozilla.org.

  4. Review - DeskTask

  5. Review - mIRC Power Pack

    7.10 RC3 (Jan 30, 2005)

please email me (use the link on this page) and tell me the exact scanner you are using that is detecting "irc.lambot backdoor" - and what files in mpp are affected. at least then i can look into it. i'm rating it 5/5 again becuase i always scan mpp with nav 2005 before i upload it - and one reported infection shouldn't penalize the rating so badly - especially without full disclosure so i can adequately investigate the problem. i'm guessing you are using ms antispyware or some other tool that might not be widely used, i'm not sure though because i have no information. i would never upload mpp if any part of it failed my own scans. mpp has also reported to scan clean with avg 7.0 free:

    (12:37:52 PM) it shows 6
    (12:37:59 PM) :)
    (12:38:02 PM) j/k
    (12:39:39 PM) no virus

    thank you,

  6. Comment - Microsoft Axes Smart Tags

    7.10 RC3 (Jun 28, 2001 - 2:18 PM)

does that make me trust them more? hell no. are smart tags and clippy more important than activation and .net? they seem more like carefully planned diversions to me. this betanews article says that they removed smart tags due to "pressure from its critics and citing consumer feedback" - surely there is more negative feedback about .net and activation than there will ever be about smart tags and clippy. if ms is backing down because of negative feedback, they could have the courtesty to do so on more important issues. i will never install an os that limits me or may someday just not turn on. are they really _that_ stupid?

  7. Comment - Microsoft Axes Smart Tags

    7.10 RC3 (Jun 28, 2001 - 12:08 PM)

"Bowing to pressure from its critics and citing consumer feedback, Microsoft has decided not to include Smart Tags in the upcoming releases of Windows XP and IE6."

Oh, and let me guess... there is absolutely NO pressure on M$ about product activation and the upcoming "Software as a ($$ PAY ONLY $$) Service" .Net.Crap -- right? How much money are you willing to PAY M$ to SPY on you??? They need to grab their ears and yank real hard - their heads might pop right on out of their asses then...
