Beta 1 (Oct 17, 2003)
melkor: You don't HAVE to pay for Winamp. Everything you use Winamp for today will still work 100% free no-nags. You only have to pay if you want to use the pro version features. The reason you have to pay for the pro version features is because it costs Nullsoft money to licenses mpeg3 encoding as well as the cd burning stuff. So next time you say something think.
As for winamp5, it’s freaking awesome. Runs great. I love the new stuff they’ve added to the skinning engine (coding wise)
3.0 Alpha Build #498 (Mar 22, 2003)
Okay, Yet again I will explain a few things. For all of you people talking about it being pulled back into beta/alpha stages you must not understand the development process of programs. A version gets released then they start working on the next version. The next version will almost certainly go though an alpha/beta stage. Also, the “Final” in Winamp3.0 Final was never meant to presume that it was the final version of the Winamp3 series but that it was the first public, non beta, release of the program. Also, if you look back at Winamp 2.0 you’ll see that it’s was just as buggy and unstable as 3.0 was when it launched. Winamp 2.0 had problems playing simple VBR (variable bit rate) mp3 files. You people need to not judge things so quickly and even more so need to not judge a product based on an alpha/beta build of that program. Again, people who are saying it’s bloated read my previous post below. One last thing, people talking about 2.9 and how it should be concentrated on more, well I can assure you that both projects are very actively being developed.
3.0c Build 488 (Dec 18, 2002)
Qlib: You sir have no idea what you're taking about. Winamp 3.0 is in fact Winamp 3.0 final. That's not to say though that there will not be future builds of the program like 3.01 and up. That's like saying they released Winamp 2.0 final and had no plans on ever upgrading it at all. Also, if I remember correctly winamp 2.0 wasn't the most stable or resource friendly program when it first came out, especially on older systems of that time. As for your comments about the developers threatening to leave Nullsoft, well that's just ridiculous the only place you heard that is in you're head when you were making it up.
Next time you talk make sure you know what you're talking about.
1.0 Beta (Mar 20, 2001)
Just to let you know... In some states it is against the law to record a telephone conversation with out the other persons permission or a court order.
1.0 Beta (Aug 17, 2002 - 11:41 AM)
For all you people that don't like this "new" spyware I suggest you open up Winamp 2.8 then go into preferences under the setup section you will notice an option for "Allow Winamp to report basic, anonymous program usage information". That has been in winamp for some time now.
Also, by Final they do not mean they are done with the program they mean that the next version they release will not be 3.0 but something like 3.1 or 3.01. Remember when winamp 2.0 was first released it wasn't in much better state then 3.0 is right now. Many of the features people are requested will probably be added in a later version and if not they could easily be programmed by a 3rd party; witch would be no different from a native option because of the way the Winamp 3.0's API is setup.
Also, remember that Winamp 2.8+ is still supported by the Nullsoft team and will continue to see development. All in all if you don’t like 3.0 then don’t use it, no one if forcing you to use it.
1.0 Beta (Aug 3, 2001 - 6:28 PM)
It doesn't block the AOL Software it blocks AOL's internet drivers that are incompatible with Windows XP
1.0 Beta (Dec 21, 2000 - 9:46 PM)
*FIXED GRAMMER*
I'm 100% for what snag said. People try so hard to forget something that was bad but if we all forget that bad thing what is there to stop us from doing it again.
Also not all Nazi's were bad... that’s Like saying all republicans are bad ;)
