  1. Review - ReactOS

    0.3.11 (Dec 17, 2009)

Keep up the work! We will need a compatible system with usable source code.
Microsoft's reputation of modifying their APIs, and their reputation of internal and external coding standards is courtroom documented.

  2. Review - Microsoft Silverlight for Windows

    3.0.40818.0 (Sep 2, 2009)

May be good for complex code, but does Not seem to help with the simple stuff.
    Checked Silverlight home page -
    View/TextSize (largest -> smallest) doesn't affect display.
Part of page text sized to screensize, graphic sized to opening window ( doesn't resize).
If the people promoting Silverlight can't do a 'correct' page, ...
I opted for a three, they can't figure it out, but some of it may be useful.

  3. Review - Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

    1.0 Beta (May 8, 2009)

What would be more useful is a bootable live disk.
After the VistaCompatable debacle, a method of checking a computer without loading software would be best. Go to the store, ignore sales marketing, install USB drive, reboot, and read results.

  4. Comment - Judge rejects Google's book deal with publishers

    1.0 Beta (Mar 24, 2011 - 10:46 AM)

Google wants to copy books ( magazines, other print media, ... ) and claims finding the copyright holder is a lot of work ?? They can copy the title page, but don't have the resources to read it and make a VOIP call. For harder searches, go to Google, enter "title author publisher" in search box, hit return. Maybe the 18,000 entries, of garbage, they get back deters them, but somewhere in there is the lead to the copyright holder.
Point two; copying a book is simple. Cut the spine, put in automatic sheet feeder of scanner, run through a program such as Omni-Reader, index using Google engine - optional.
The hard part seems to be paying someone to make the phone call.

  5. Comment - Amazon on FCC's 'Third Way:' 'It's not about regulating the Internet'

    1.0 Beta (May 10, 2010 - 8:49 AM)

Gee, only a lawyer can make this confusing!
    Actions under Title2 - regulated under Title2.
    Actions under Title3 - regulated under Title3.
The fact that a company decides to do both does Not give it magical rights to claim that:
    Actions under Title2 - regulated under Title3.
    Actions under Title3 - regulated under Title2.

  6. Comment - Docs.com: The surest sign yet of Microsoft's defeat

    1.0 Beta (Apr 23, 2010 - 10:14 PM)

    Mr. Wilcox,
Did you write this article using FaceBook or Google?
Does Betanews request editorial rights before they post your articles?
Passing around data is one thing, creating information from data is possibly a bit more complex.

  7. Comment - Windows 7 SP1 leaks, downloadable now

    1.0 Beta (Apr 8, 2010 - 3:35 PM)

    Please.
    Read the article
    1) Win7 SP1 is in the cloud ( thank you betanews )
    2) It adds nothing if your computer has all current updates
    3) Refer to 2, new Remote Desktop does NOT currently connect to anything
    4) It is pre-Beta

    Results
    a) I have heard of it - ignore it til release
    b) I want to play with a new toy - I will be wiping the system anyway
    c) It is available - I have to have it to go with my pre-ordered IPad ( sorry, apologies )

  8. Comment - Microsoft group shift confirms consumer-centric approach to Windows Phone 7

    1.0 Beta (Apr 8, 2010 - 2:57 PM)

Possibly then there will be an advocate for good operating systems, not merely listening to lazy reviewers ( it is new - because it is pink) and game players ( more speed - if it crashes reboot).
