  1. Review - VisNetic MailServer

    7.1.4.0 Beta (Jan 15, 2004)

If you think it's great - look at Merak. It's much more up to date than Visnetic is! Just lok at the versions! ( http://www.icewarp.com )

The screenshot still needs updating, it's out of date for both the Merak and Visnetic sites now!

  2. Review - SmartFTP (x86)

    1.0.978.9 Beta (Aug 20, 2003)

I've been using SmartFTP for over 2 years now! It's simply the best, easiest to use FTP client I have found. Keep up the good work!

  3. Review - Mozilla Firefox (v2) for Windows

    0.6.1 (Jul 29, 2003)

Phoenix is nice, but until the authors decide to make Phoenix work correctly with web pages, it doesn't deserve a 5.
Firebird (Pheonix) is coded to be as standards complient as possible. The reason some websites do not display correctly is due to design flaws within those websites, not Firebird. It is up to webmasters to code their sites properly, and not rely on proprietry MS extensions, not down to the Firebird team to create work-arounds for badly coded sites. Yes, I agree, some extensions / plugins won't install correctly at the moment; those problems are being worked on and will be fixed in the near future. The Firebird 0.7 release will include a lot of that sort of fix.
Firebird is the best browser available, and would get a 10 from me if I could...

  4. Review - Mozilla for Windows

    1.2 Alpha (Sep 13, 2002)

Type ahead is not in the installer builds, you will need to download a .zip build to get it to work. Otherwise, this is a great built. Mozilla keeps raising the bar. At this rate IE will be dead very soon!

  5. Review - Netscape Navigator for Windows

    7.0 (Aug 29, 2002)

What's the point of this release? It's based on Mozilla 1.01, which is still not consdered release quality by the Moz. team! (It's on RC2 at the moment)

Get Mozilla 1.1 - SIMPLY THE BEST

  6. Comment - New Cell Phone Virus Jumps to PCs

    7.0 (Sep 23, 2005 - 10:46 AM)

    Yet more scaremongering from F-Secure...

They fail to mention the convoluted process you have to go through to even "install" this so-called virus on your Symbian (Series 60 ONLY) phone!

  7. Comment - Nokia N91 Music Phone Pushed to 2006

    7.0 (Sep 21, 2005 - 5:04 AM)

The N91 is a red herring - by the time it's ready for release, Nokia will have announced 4 more N series phones, some of which will expand on the N91's feature set.

The reason for the delay is actually making Series 60 version 3 work properly on Symbian OS 9.1 - the same problem Nokia have had since they announced this phone!

WMA DRM is not the reason - Sendo did WMA DRM on Symbian OS 6.1, so with the added DRM features of 9.1, it should have been dead easy for Nokia!

  8. Comment - Nokia Unveils Answer to iTunes Phone

    7.0 (Sep 20, 2005 - 4:45 AM)

This phone is neither new, nor does it offer ANY new features! All Nokia have done is tweak PC-Suite slightly, and thrown a 256MB card into the phone pack.

Why not go and buy an "ordinary" 6630 for half the price, then add a 256MB card and download PC-Suite from Forum Nokia?

The company who were producing a decent rival to the ROKR is Sendo - if they had released the X2 before they were bought by Motorola, then ROKR would have proper competition. See http://www.sendosmartphones.com for more info.

  9. Comment - A Keyboard for Uber-Geeks

    7.0 (Aug 12, 2005 - 6:23 AM)

Looks like a Keytronic keyboard rebranded.

They were the first ones to do variable weighting on the keys.

  10. Comment - Firefox 1.1 Scrapped, 1.5 Due in Sept

    7.0 (Jul 22, 2005 - 12:16 PM)

Firefox 1.1 has NOT been scrapped, it's merely been renamed due to the large number of new features and an un-realistic initial timescale.

The wealth of new features since 1.0 made the 1.1 tag unrealistic, and the time needed to test everything has meant that a slip was necessary from August to September!

The Deerpark Alphas are still called 1.1, but when it gets to beta 1 release (the next one) it will be tagged 1.5. (mentions of 1.4 are for testing software update only)
