Good Guy, windows file sharing has horrible performance when a connection does not have LAN-like speeds. It is really old protocol which is not very well designed either. It just cannot cope with not-so-fast links. I'm using http://www.rejetto.com/hfs over Hamachi and pretty happy with it. 2c :)

mjm01010101, Hamachi IS a private networking system, it is *designed* to be that way. Their server is not in the middle per se, and it does not require peers to trust it. If you'd bothered to look at their security specs and if you were competent enough to comprehend it, it would've been obvious to you. This has also been discussed many times on their forums and in other places including p2p and cryptography maillists.
1.0.0.39 Pre-Alpha Release 39 FC6 (Jan 7, 2006)
spiked: 97% rate is free version number. That's the cool thing about Hamachi. I saw this number last Spring, that's way before they intoduced relays and announced paid stuff. Check your facts next time.
1.5 Beta 3 (Sep 16, 2005)
I am giving it a rating of 2. The one and only reason for a low rating is to counter all the hype Waste is getting from its paranoid, but otherwise crypto-illiterate userbase.
Using longer keys does not automatically mean stronger security and it does not compensate for a handful of gaping holes in a design of its core protocol. Use extreme caution when relying on Waste as a mean to secure your communications, or better yet stick to standard VPNs. After all VPNs are standard for a reason.
Other than this Waste is a good application deserving solid 4 on both quality and usability scales.
