Oct 24, 2006, DudeBoyz comment below has since become (partially) obsolete. ImgBurn (2.3.2.0) now reads CDs to iso images.

There are so many of these CD-related wares, it's hard to sort em out. some burn, some rip, some deal with copy "protection. some do different DVDs better. .. virtual drives...

regards IsoRecorder. it's a bit different in that it only starts from Right click (context menu). But it needs Win service IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service or Imapi Helper something or other. (named in error popup and in alexfeinman faq)
IIRC, I couldn't find that exact name in services, but a similar named service in xp's services wouldn’t remain started. A dependency hadn't been on... the Remote Procedure RPC (or similar name) service started OK, but this didn't change previous attempt to keep the cd service started.

Next I tried ImgBurn, and it worked. :-) (and today i used ImgBurn to read+verify a cd-rw to iso on external drive.)

BN forces us to rate when we comment, so i chose 3 because i really don't know whether it would work well if that service was available.

I am so grateful for this fantastic program. I have struggled with this whole ISO concept for days and days.
I have used Nero, CD burner XP Pro, Silent Night micro 20, and Burn CDCC from TeraByte Unlimited. All with limited success. Making bootable ISO'a has been a nightmare, until I started this program.
Thank You Alex Feinman for your awesome contribution.
I am definitely going to donate to this cause.

I just found out about this app, and am really glad I did find it.

On Windows XP it will apparently not burn DVD ISO's, but it does read both CD and non-protected DVD's and create full-on ISO images from bootable and non-bootable CD's and DVD's.

I have found that it works well in conjunction with ImgBurn, which can be used to burn the ISO's that this application creates.

It's small, efficient and free, and it helps provide a feature that ImgBurn lacks, so I think for XP folks, it's a good solution.

Saves folks from having to purchase a retail ISO app when their needs are simple enough that free software will do the trick.

Thanks to the author for working on the app. I hope it is continually updated to help make it even better.

This SHOULD have been standard issue from Mirosoft with the OS - VERY NICE - useful for those that know what it is and how to use it. Bill Gates should make this author rich.

Doesn't work for a DVD/CD combo drive on my new HP laptop, when double clicking on an ISO it asks me what I want to open it in... to be able to use it you have to right click? Uhhhh ....?

By far, though, the most annoying is not being able to record to my DVD/CD combo drive ...
