KompoZer is a wysiwyg HTML editor (Nvu/Composer fork) aimed towards advanced users.

You know I know nothing about open source software, but it seems to me that projects collaborate on things in that community. Wouldn't it be possible to incorporate notepad++ into this project as the text editor, thus killing the syntax highlighting for HTML and PHP in one fell swoop?

The author home page does indeed say "KompoZer is designed to be extremely easy to use, making it ideal for non-technical computer users..." so I'm not sure why the desc here differs from that. Anyway, it's a pretty nice editor.

NVU is a fork of KompoZer 0.7 IIRC, not the other way around.
