Pismo File Mount Audit Package is a Windows system extension that enables access to contents of ZIP, ISO, and Private Folder files by any application. Supported file formats can be mounted as folders in the file system. The companion Pismo File Mount Developer Kit allows software developers to add support for new file formats and virtual file systems.

Reviewing Build 048 (Nov 8, 2008)
I've found 2 features very useful:
1) The ram drive - because it frees the memory after you delete files from it (unlike other programs I tried).
2) For programs with thousands of files, the "Private Folders" (with the encryption turned off) is a very fast way of storing everything together in one package - which often can speed up the programs, as seeking many individual files on the hard disk is slow.

@ esnupi
ZIP is already supported in Windows XP & Vista.
This means that there is already a car available in the OS.
No support for other archive formats is pretty much like like no support at all !
Please keep your car for yourself and I keep the ZIP-Ferrari that came already with Vista : OK !!
Reviewing Build 046 (Aug 18, 2008)
Some people here complains: "Why should I use this?" And even: "Why if only supports Zip format, and not Rar or others?" Well, the same goes if I want to buy a car or not. If I don't need it, I don't buy it BUT I don't complain. And if I do, I can choose a cheap one or the best Ferrari. It is not a MUST buying the Ferrari. Right?
I mean: May be Zip format is a "worst car" than Rar format or 7z, but anyway *it is a car*, and carries you everywhere much better than your simple legs.
An example: My installation of LightWave spreads 9600+ files (!) and 1000+ folders all through my hard disk. Some of my Adobe apps do it too. Even after defragmenting, loading these apps is a pain of 100% HD activity and 0% of CPU activity (!). Think about it. Cpu literally sleeps while HD sweats blood. It means our resources are badly distributed.
I compressed my LightWave folder into only one Zip file, I defragmented it, and turned it into a virtual folder. Now LightWave loads at lightspeed!! Yes, Cpu needs time to decompress it, but you will discover that decompressing is much faster than moving around your hard disk heads. I dont't need to complain about lack of other formats (Rar, etc) while I'm happy with this system. I am happy with my Citröen/Zip even I haven't got a Ferrari/7z. Much better a Citröen/Zip than nothing! It takes me there, as a Ferrari/7z does! Ten minutes later, you say? Do you really care? Ferrari or nothing? Hehe, try walking, and choose again. You will love Citroen!
Only one complaint: You must be sure that you will never need write acces to your virtual folders. I hope this wil change.

It has an SDK, so we have to wait a bit for support for other formats. Hope soon.
And it's free :)
