  1. Review - Mozilla Firefox for Mac OS X

    15.0 Final (Aug 28, 2012)

Seems to work great with Mountain Lion 10.8.1 and updating Firefox from ver 14.

    Appears to have flawless integration.

  2. Review - Image Resize Guide Lite

    1.0.3 (Feb 10, 2011)

This is a great piece of software with advanced algorithms for content aware scaling. I recommend you try it.

Be aware that this software is new to BetaNews and the download link is to the 'free trial' of the paid version. I had to do a search to get the free Lite download version which is well worth the effort.

  3. Review - Foxit Reader

    4.3.1.0118 (Feb 2, 2011)

Hey, how come I didn't get the ask toolbar? Adobe first made me load the Adobe Download Manager. Then snuck in the Google tool bar. The file was corrupted so wouldn't load. Got it from a different browser but wouldn't open a PDF off an ASUS disc that had the manuals on it.

Loaded up Foxit and I was able to read the manuals and have real functions I can work with.

Complaining about it loading the Ask bar. Uncheck it or uninstall it is all. Try and find good free software that doesn't try to slip in something on you these days. We're in a recession. The software writers have to eat and pay their mortgage. Be glad it works and its free.

  4. Review - foobar2000

    1.1.2 Beta 1 (Jan 2, 2011)

Good program but poor choice of name as it is pronounced the same as Fubar which has this definition in the Urban dictionary and is well known:

  5. Review - Process Lasso (x32) Free Edition

    4.09.08 Beta (Dec 30, 2010)

The paid version is even better, worth the money.

  6. Comment - What's the right tool for moving data to a new hard drive?

    4.09.08 Beta (May 6, 2011 - 12:11 PM)

I am moving my OS next week to a Crucial C300 128GB SSD.

I wanted some software in advance so I got Paragon Migrate OS to SSD 2.0 which is specifically made to do that.

It's a little hard to find on their site but it is only $19.

  7. Comment - Tip: Use Microsoft Safety Scanner as back line of your security offense

    4.09.08 Beta (Apr 15, 2011 - 11:09 PM)

I ran this program on my Win7 machine today and it took over 5 hrs to check 2.5 million files and it found one that Notrton, Emisoft, SuperAntSpyware and MalWareBytes missed. OpenCandy. It is an adware/malware that was attached to Duplicate Cleaner with no opt out. I had uninstalled Duplicate Cleaner a month ago.

Microsoft Safety Scanner only cleaned part of it and it was kind enough to tell me so I was able to finish it off by manually cleaning the registry string to Digital Volcano.

Check out Open Candy at this site. It is adware gone bad:

I am glad I ran this program and probably will continue to do so once a month.

  8. Comment - Do you like Google's new Chrome logo?

    4.09.08 Beta (Mar 22, 2011 - 9:16 AM)

The new design is ok if they would only add the glossy colors and not the dull, flat colors they have for the new icon. It doesn't need to be 3-D but it does need to be shiny.

  9. Comment - Microsoft fixes Windows: Automated troubleshooter encourages assistance

    4.09.08 Beta (Apr 20, 2010 - 1:50 PM)

Try the help forum at The Windows Club http://www.thewindowsclub.com/

They have a competent staff and reliable information. The have some great freeware utilities too!

  10. Comment - Performance drain: The first public perception test of the Windows 7 era

    4.09.08 Beta (Nov 6, 2009 - 10:51 AM)

My perceived performance after installing the upgrade over Vista was delightfully enhanced. The installation was smooth. All my programs worked. The system seems a lot more stable.

I did miss the quick launch toolbar and you can make one following the instructions here:
