BETA (April 14, 2008)

Windows 2000/2003/9x/XP / Freeware / 4,624 downloads

HDD Health is a full-featured failure-prediction agent. Sitting in the system tray, it monitors hard disks and alerts you to impending failure. The program uses Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) built into all new hard disks and can predict failures on your hard drives. A host of alerting features include email, local pop-up messages, net messages, and event logging, while using no system resources.

Does what it says it can do though more information or less would be good or more specific if not a tech person so rates a 4 until they can define numbers/information for the average Joe.

As for the other program someone mentioned "it" says I do not have any hard drives.
Thats good information and I have nothing to worry about then.

As for pay someone must give their head a bashing to set things right as the program is "freeware"
Wonder what part of that is not understood!

Solid prog as you can adjust settings so it does not startup at boot.
More information would be good as to why one drive is excellent and other drive is rated as only good.
So again more information is required to make this a useful application for the average Joe.

i dont see the point of paying for something when HDTune can do the same thing for free.

Wouldn't run properly. Popped an error about every 5 seconds.

Does read SATA drives at this time.

However, it is incorrectly reporting drive sizes. My two 160GB IDE drives are reporting as 134 GB. My 80GB drive is reporting as 398GB, and my 200GB is reporting as 2000GB!!!

It seems to be pulling capacity numbers out of its arse. Giving it a 4 because it actually reports temperatures on the SATA drives which almost nothing else will do.

This seems to be forever stuck in beta, but other than a sloppy installer, the program works very nicely. It uses very little system resources, comparable to DTemp. The installer creates a Start Menu shortcut to "Backup Utility" which points to a URL file that does not exist. Presumably, it was going to be a page promoting one of the author's commercial products but it got left out. Also, the installer creates some empty subdirectories. It looks like these are directories on the author's development system for storing source files for the online help; they don't need to be created on the user's system but the author probably accepted all the defaults generated by Inno Setup without paying much attention.
