Solution!!
To anyone that said it crashed on them. Rename the mencoder.exe file in Simpledivx directory to *.bak. Copy mencoder.exe that come with Mplayer to the same location in the Simpledivx directory. The one with Mplayer is about 12,921Mb (0.0.9.0).
Convert as before with Simpledivx.

SimpleDivx is great! Simple but powerful.
What I miss is audio encoding in Ogg Vorbis. I want this feature back (currently only mp3 and ac3 are enabled)! x.264 + Ogg Vorbis would be really cool.

Seems like a very good program so far. I'm encoding THX 1138 as we speak with the x264 codec. All seems good!
Do make sure you have version 1.40.14 installed before installing this though as 1.40.19 is only an update.

Great program. I have been looking for a freeware program to convert DVD movies down to a size for playing on my pocket-pc. Simple enough, just tell it what final filesize you need it to be and it does the rest, directly from the DVD! and very good final video/audio quality. A 1hr 40min movie on 230Meg AVI file.

I give this a score of 5 because the quality of the final AVI is great—on my computer.
But the term "DivX" is misleading. It isn't true DivX™, it is mpeg-4. I have a "certified DivX" DVD player for my TV and it won't play. It won't play on anything but its own player.
This is a fine product, but it shouldn't be using the DivX name.

every single time i install this program it crashes. I redownload it and reinstall it and still it crashes shortly after i open it. UI would love to love this program but i cant if it dont work

This app uses mencoder from mplayer (www.mplayerhq.hu). And that is good news for you, because mencoder can easily transcode between _all_ the formats it supports (codecs available from the site), so avi-avi transcoding is no harder than dvd-avi, or e.g. capture-ing directly from tuner card to xvid+mp3 for which I frequently use it (with scheduled jobs).

This looks very prommising! HOWEVER tobad that it only can convert from DVD - AVI :( Need an avi-avi converter thats are as good as this! any 5 stars!
