X-Setup Pro is a so-called "hacker" or "tweaker" program. It allows you to change 1,900 settings that are normally hidden deeply in some configuration-files like the registry fast and easily. It's runs on any Windows version, is clutter-free, easy to use, extensible, powerful, covers any aspect of your computer and has more configuration options than any other tweaker.

Reviewing 9.2.100 (Sep 17, 2012)
Xteq X-Setup Pro 6.6 was the long-standing "final free" version that was retained free for loyal users who loved the original freeware program, arguably the very best of all XP (and earlier) tweak machines.
Although 6.6 was always available, paid-for versions—with apologies for no longer being free—continued through XQDC 9.2.100 (June 2010).
X-Setup was always meticulously prepared and its myriad available tweaks were cross-referenced and annotated. It was truly a beautiful program, the epitome of freeware produced for the love of creativity. The developers were always personable and quite emotional in their close relationships with end-users.
As of Sept 2012, I still include both Xteq X-Setup 6.6 as well as XQDC X-Setup Pro 9.2.100 operational in my Windows 7 64-bit OS, not so much because I need them as simply a gesture of "keeping the faith" in the best of the best.
Reviewing 9.2.100 (Jun 3, 2009)
Functionality is great, as is the comprehensiveness, but there really hneeds to be an optionallowing you to see each tweak only ONCE in classic view. Two many of the tweaks qualify to appear in multiple categgories, and so they are duplicated again and again as you work your way down the tree.
Reviewing 9.1.100 (Jan 1, 2009)
If you don't like this point me to something better, because i have yet to find anything as detailed and simple to use.
Reviewing 9.1.100 (Nov 20, 2008)
I don't understand the negative drivel...
I'm a tweak hound-- both manually and with a ton of different apps...and I:
still found plenty of tweaks(for Vista mind you)in XSetup that are not found in other apps.
¿Would i pay $15? Hemmmm, hawwww.....
1. I would love to see 'prolificness for Vista', as befits traditional XSetup reputation. However, that's not such a black stain-- given everyone else's still dealing with Vista's relative newness and numerous still-uncorrected defficiencies / quirks. AAANNNDD:
2. Keeping up with the third-party apps of TODAY-- some of which have now been around too long for XSetup not to be dealing with.
If XSetup folks wish to monetize, then work up something for the business side: the other Win OS & apps they use-- particularly those which have some crossover personal use.... new hardware technologies....
XSetup is NOT doing anything wrong to merit negative ratings...it just needs to do more...it's become a victim of its early success generating such high expectations. A good though unrelated analogy is Google-- an absolute cash cow suffering from an undeserved deflated share price.

Superb product....
101% reliable....
Been using it since about 2003....
Nothing else even comes near it in capabilities &/or reliability.....

At one time this was at the top of the tree among tweaking but these days it can be considered an alsoran.
A clumsy interface does nothing to help.
Reviewing 9.0.100 (Apr 23, 2007)
This program is the best of its kind, but lost 3 stars because of its horrendous installation procedures.
There's absolutely NO REASON why this application needs to spread itself all over your computer.
For example:
INSTALLATION:
*System: xqdcXSPApplet.cpl
*To Local settings Data folder: "items" folder containing ***1002*** FILES. Yes, one THOUSAND.
*Application folder: 16.1 MB of application files.
I encourage all of you to rigorously boycott this program until the author allows you to save all of the files to ONE folder and doesn't use the registry to save its own setting ;(
Reviewing 9.0.100 (Mar 17, 2007)
Shazbad! We've descended into a plethora of utter review 'uselessability'.
To sum up the general consensus re X-Setup thru the years:
1. So many tweaks abound that one can use this app for a long time before getting to each and every tweak.
2. Very important in light of 1: no reports of even minor bugs in all these years...much less of any significant system damage.
3. Tweaks applied can be saved auto-saved en masse & ported over to another computer/unattended setup.
4. Tweakers & developers are further taken care of with ability to see which/how pertinent registry key is modified and further- able to modify current plugins or create new one.
Beaucoup reviews over the years have just gushed over X-Setup...to the point that countless freeware-only advocates state they willingly fork over the few dollars to purchase this app.
If this app does not deserve a 5, then i don't know which one in the entire universe would... plus: all direct competitors- much, much smaller & many rated 4/5- would then have to be rated 1/2 just based on providing so many less features & tweaks.
I do however, have a couple of concerns re Vista-- in light of it NOT being freeware AND upgrades included for one year only:
Until an extensive number of Vista tweaks are included AND a warning inserted into the regular tweaks that won't work on Vista(esp. for those that can cause system issues), i would extend the free trial period until...even if only for Vista systems-- either: install routine can detect OS version & apply different trial period, or easier: designate it Beta & allow it to install on Visa with NO expiration, as folks w/ Vista would want to subsequently get the version with tweaks for their OS, portability to vLite, etc.
From a promotional / marketing / increased sales viewpoint, THAT is what would make total sense.

Sorry CyberDoc999, we do not understand your behaviiour. You send us a support request on sunday 14 may 9:35 and we answered same day (weekend!) at 15:54. We prolonged your license as desired in despite of the expiration of your license key. So what is your problem? We don't mug our customers.
Reviewing 8.1.100 (May 12, 2006)
8.1 is even more user-friendly than I expected. X-Setup Pro does it all, so spend your money here and toss all the other tweakers.
Reviewing 8.1.100 (May 11, 2006)
This is a must-buy even for freeware advocates. Just being able to save all changes for future(how would you like to manually search for and re-apply hundreds of tweaks every time a reinstall or deploy is called for), being able to actually view the script/reg edit for each tweak is priceless. I think this is into the thousands of tweaks now-- it's not your average tweak utility with 1or2 dozen tweaks at most / restricted only to one or two OS releases: it's completely indispensable--
If you live where $15 is a significant chunk of change, then go do what you've gotta do to raise this money...otherwise, a special coctail(can't spell it correctly, gets ***out) or shot of specialty liquor in the big city costs more than this-- just drink one less.

X-Setup Pro is an excellent program! I've been using it for several years. I especially like the ability to work with registry files from other computers without impacting the current PC. Great for tracking down spyware as well. Personally I think it's an award winner!

Reviewing 7.2 (Sep 21, 2005)
Awesome! I've been using this program since the 5.x branch. As soon as they started charging $8, I gladly chipped in. This has got to be one of the best bargains around. It's easy to use and very powerful. Simply outstanding.
Reviewing 7.2 (Sep 21, 2005)
Very advanced, yet the user friendly wizards make this program a must!
Reviewing 7.1 (Jul 16, 2005)
This is by FAR one of the best tweaking programs available anywhere! $8 for such a wonderful program is well worth it!
Reviewing 7.1 (Jul 15, 2005)
Does the tweak'n job well. I still prefer regedit.exe and any other manual modifications to the default install of windows.
Reviewing 7.0 (Mar 1, 2005)
This is one of the only applications I will give a 5 to. It works well, it does not screw things up, and if you do make a mistake it it quite likely you will remember what you did. This even works for me with my lousy memory.
X-Setup also works with the 32 bit leak of Longhorn I've been using. It sees different things here and there but it still refers to Longhorn as XP. So it doesn't really know better. It is reliable with Longhorn though while being self explanatory enough to be safe.
I have never been able to figure out what I'm doing with the Wizard interface though. But the step by step approach through the tree interface works well enough to make the Wizards a waste of time anyway.
Reviewing 7.0 (Mar 1, 2005)
I have been using this for years and will now continue using it for the modest price asked. My only hope is that they don't follow the pattern of the once great free Trillian product and load it with bloat and eyecandy while calling them features that must be paid for.
Reviewing 7.0 (Mar 1, 2005)
I second all opinions:
and with the new features it's just too tough to resist at only $; even for those who don't believe in paying for any software... this has got to make converts out of them.
If any app merited a 5 rating it's this one, and if this one didn't merit it, then no other one would even come close to meriting it either.
I mean, where's the logic? We give plenty of 5's out for apps with a couple of features-- some of which we pay big bucks for-- with this one 2,000 changes can be performed, and where do you ever hear a report of a single bug whatsoever, on any OS? & if that wasn't enough: undo all changes w/ one click, create an exportable reg file with them, edit each, add/create new, etc., etc.... come on!!!
Fantabulous is all i can say!!
Reviewing 7.0 (Feb 28, 2005)
The best $8 you'll ever spend. X-Setup Pro is easy to use and if you read its contents, will teach you a lot about WindowsXP.
Reviewing 7.0 (Feb 28, 2005)
This program is unbelievable. It allows you to tweak virtually everything. I am going to spend the $8 just to support this program. It is absolutely outstanding!
Reviewing 7.0 (Feb 28, 2005)
It is no longer free for home use. The text referring to that is "leftover" text that will be corrected soon. Check out their forums for details. Still, for all the years I've used the home version, I don't have a problem with the modest $8.00 asking price. Well worth it, IMHO.
Reviewing 7.0 (Feb 28, 2005)
Home users and non-commercial institutions can download and use X-Setup Pro for free.

Reviewing 6.6.030 Alpha 3 (Apr 18, 2004)
The mutts nuts of tweaking software. I don't know how an Alpha can at the same time also be a Beta though. lol
Reviewing 6.6.030 Alpha 3 (Apr 18, 2004)
The best program of this type available. The main reason I like this program is that they don't claim it will increase your speed 300% or make your ram work better. This program allows you to easily edit your reg with the option to undo changes, perfect for people unfamiliar with regedit. Even those that do use regedit can benefit, I didn't know half of the stuff you can do with this program was possible. 5 Stars.
Reviewing 6.6.010 Alpha (Apr 5, 2004)
This is actually a review of the previous version. X-Setup Pro is a very useful tool for both the professional and the unenlightened. Having both a standard and a wizard interface, tweaking never was easier. Once one has gotten over the thrill of tweaking manually, this program does an excellent job of tweaking all of the right places, almost with a single click of the mouse.
Reviewing 6.6.010 Alpha (Apr 5, 2004)
A convenient tweaking utility although, I prefer Window's own regedit.exe.
Reviewing 6.6.010 Alpha (Apr 5, 2004)
This program just gets better and better - I have tried many other Tweaking type porgrams and this one is so much better. I note the intended change to shareware, but for those of us who have used the software and appreciate it's qualities, this should not present an issue.
Reviewing 6.6.010 Alpha (Apr 5, 2004)
Great program for tweaking Windows, probably the best all-in-one tweaker there is. While it will be going shareware in a while, it will be a low price, and they will keep the free version around.
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 3, 2004)
Great program. 6.5 has a nicer interface than 6.3, but functionally is about the same. Careful, this version may expire. Hold on to your ver. 6.3 and 6.5 setup files just in case, as 7.0 is going Shareware.
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 3, 2004)
Tried the new 6.5 beta up to their usual high standard - I have tried so many others and in all honesty none come even close. Layout is much neater - wizards are good for the less experienced and still free though when they do charge I don't consider $8 ex[ensive, especially when compared to the cost of the inferior competition.
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 3, 2004)
It's rare that a program can be so easily and clearly singled-out as the absolute best in its category, but that's exactly what this program is, bar-none.
This version's changes seem to be mostly cosmetic, so everyone's focus will be on the advent of the shareware version.
If you won't want to pay for 7.0, just hold on to whatever 6.x version ends up being the last freeware release, and use it as long as it will work on your version of Windows.
I, however, am so pleasantly surprised by the $8 price that I will pay it, and consider it more of a donation than a purchase.
Other shareware authors would be wise to note the price and quality of this fine piece of work.
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 2, 2004)
I have to agree. I was actually pleasantly surprised that it would only cost $8.
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 2, 2004)
This program is excelent, this is in fact the "mother of all tweakers" bare none and it actually does give you info about what you are doing and clear warnings.
Going shareware, well he has to bring the bacon home, and for $8 it does not leave room for anyone to b**** about the price :-)
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 2, 2004)
Sad to see it's going shareware but I do understand. The price is reasonable so I'll probably buy it. Kudos for the developers for being up front with their intentions. Defin itely the best tweaking program around :)
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 2, 2004)
Yes, it does seem X-Setup is going shareware at v7.0, but the license is only $8--more than competative. It is a great program. When I found X-Setup a couple years ago, I couldn't believe it was freeware when other tweaking programs charged $20+ that didn't do 1/10 what this is capable of.
Reviewing 6.5 Beta 1 (Jan 2, 2004)
Version 7.0 will be shareware. ;-( http://www.x-setup.net/xset2xsp.asp?lang=EN
Reviewing 6.3 (Dec 29, 2002)
The best program for tweaking settings in windows. Just make sure to back up your registry prior to any changes. Make sure to read any warnings the software gives you...
Reviewing 6.2 Beta 2 (May 12, 2002)
To Sunstar: I created a folder called Plugin Storage and just moved the plugins I will never use into that folder. I have 96 in there now. If you remove all the plugins for a particular group, the section no longer shows up.
Reviewing 6.2 Beta 2 (May 12, 2002)
I've been using this program for quite a long time now. I've tried it under every version of windows at some point and its always worked great, unlike Winboost which has rendered my win98 system unbootable more then once, I wont touch that anymore.
I tried this new beta on a fresh install of WinXP Pro, and as always worked great..I think the interface could be nicer..but necessary, the only feature I would like to see is the update feature to let you hide the ones that dont apply, or you dont want, and have it actually work.
Reviewing 6.2 Beta 2 (May 11, 2002)
There are other programs which can do what this one does, but that would mean you probably have to get two or three of them together. X-Setup 6.2 is the ultimate tweaking utility and has just about every tweak you can ask for. Sure, the interface is not the most user friendly, but then again, chances are that if you're tweaking anything within your OS then you'll catch on and figure stuff out. If you can't, then you probably shouldn't be tweaking anything. This is a really great program and a slight improvement from version 6.1.
Reviewing 6.1 (Jun 30, 2001)
Gotta retract my previous review. After a little time with the latest version of this software I think it has become my exclusive tweaking utility...options aren't organized badly at all, and it has all the functionality of all the other tweaking utilities combined plus a thousand handy little Windows applications out there. Gotta recommend it, but be careful - some settings can mess up your computer, but it is always quick to warn you which & how settings might do that.
Reviewing 6.1 (May 30, 2001)
mrbee - xsetup is free too & does all that & more. The plugins are well organized, e.g. videocard plugins are in the hardware -> Videocard section, not much more needed than that.
& yes, it supports Windows Me just fine. Not much you can complain about really, the interface is functional, nothing more is needed though, you want the settings it offers not some fancy visuals :)
Reviewing 6.0 Beta 1 (Feb 16, 2001)
Very nice program, pretty straightforward, It prompts you if you're about to toggle with anything potentialy hazzerdous. Basically, it's registry tweaking made easy.
Reviewing 6.0 Beta 1 (Feb 14, 2001)
I've used this particular program before and found it excellent, I found though I could not use it with a similar proggie installed (probably a good thing). I had no trouble d'loading as I used the link from the EFront home page. [Tweaking - The heart 'n soul of computing].
