Why does anybody use this? I don't anymore.

This is quite a good product but I think it is too expensive for what it is, especially when I've read that people can get free programs that do the same thing.
Of course it is much cheaper than Adobe so that's one thing!
It does a good job and is user-friendly but I would prefer it was cheaper.

Of all Adobe alternatives I tried, this one has the best rendering.
zapatero reviewed v4.0.1.0 Beta on Jul 26, 2010
It may be expensive, but of course it supports Windows 7 x32 and x64, no problem at all. And, in my experience, the rendering is excellent.

that's too expensive! it dosent deserve and even cant support windows 7!so i think i should still support Simpo PDF Creator,it's better than this.i think everyone who are trying to use this one have to use the same with me,it's really better! you can check it! http://www.simpopdf.com/pdf-creator.html i am serious!

The accuracy of the font rendering in PDF Factory is absolute rubbish.
DudeBoyz reviewed v3.45 on Feb 27, 2009
This is not a bad product. But I do not think it is as competitive a product as it could / should be.
There are many free apps that do much of what this one does, and some do it at least as well.
That said, it is a bargain compared to purchasing the entire Adobe version, and if you need those higher-end features that only come with the paid versoin of this product, I think it is a solid alternative to the Adobe original.
I feel a rating fo 3.0 is fitting, given all of this.

Had to go back to 3.38 as 3.40 crashes computer on x64. As does fineprint 6.05 (6.04 is fine). Quite a few are reporting this problem
harryou reviewed v3.40 on Jan 19, 2009
Version 3.40 spooler has problem working with Citrix universal printing driver. Change to version 2.7 solved problem. Fineprint 6.05 shares same problem too (same spooler?).
Doubledoom reviewed v3.38 on Oct 23, 2008
No font rendering problems here. I use it integrated with fineprint and it does exactly what is needed.
Sure there are many pdf printers nowadays and there are many similarities but the stacking and letterhead features are particulary useful for me.
SoundMix reviewed v7.34 on Jul 10, 2020
Pros: It works
Cons: It is easily replaceable for free
Bottom Line: Why does anybody use this? I don't anymore.

Just tested the latest version and it STILL has the exact same font rendering problems from 5 years ago.
Feature wise it's not too bad, but in terms of actual usage, if it messes up your output then what's the point?
I dumped the POS a long time ago for good reason.

PDF creator: Cheap and free pdf creation.
Acrobat: Professional supported no-nonsense PDF creation.
PDF Converter: Best OCR engine in the business.
We use all three above in different practice areas with good results.

pdfFactory is one of those programs you cannot live without!
Paired with FinePrint or just alone, pdfFactory is highly recommended!
zapatero reviewed v3.20 on Sep 18, 2007
Very good, recent versions work more independently from Fineprint.
Doubledoom reviewed v3.18 on May 10, 2007
Not sure where 3.18 is as it still shows 3.17 on the website.
However, it does exactly what you need it do and as a commercial user, the letterhead function saves a ton on post as well as the print to pdf function and stacking. Simple to use and worth every penny. Used it for years.
Crypton reviewed v3.18 on May 10, 2007
Decent program, but not the "first" for "non-experts". The price is also way to high. If your aim is to sell to "non-experts" then your general audience is not corporation based as corporations will have an "expert" to create using Adobe or other "major" brand which makes this tool useless for them.
PDF Creator:
http://fileforum.betanew...PDFCreator/1092137928/1
PDFCreator while not "perfect" it is easy to use and works, and for free and open source no less. Being open source, you can (if you know programming at all) make it "perfect" for your needs and conform to standards in PDF's. (not saying it does not already create compatible PDF's)
Looks like another dev a bit to eager to make a lot of cash quickly.
halc reviewed v3.18 on May 10, 2007
Among the best there is, if not the best.
-1 star for being way too expensive (should be half the price or less) and due to some issues with fond embedding settings
Otherwise 5 star software
Diam0nd reviewed v3.18 on May 9, 2007
Best PAY pdf maker on the market. This stuff is top-notch. But yeah, expensive...
zapatero reviewed v3.10 on Dec 11, 2006

All apps should be this well written. Incredibly intuitive - a pleasure to use.
zridling reviewed v3.02 on Sep 19, 2006
Bookmarks? No problem, pdfFactory Pro does that with ease. The reason you might pay is for its accuracy. Convert a page with tables, footnotes, color graphs, and other complex items and check the incredible precision of pdfFactory Pro. Corporations buy this app for a reason.
muppet reviewed v3.02 on Sep 19, 2006
Good software, though why you'd pay when there's PDF Creator available for free that does a great job too.
Paridine reviewed v3.02 on Sep 19, 2006
Openoffice can export to PDF and I love that feature cause it adds bookmarks to the PDF file already wich is priceless
This application is just as good for the basic user.
mjm01010101 reviewed v3.02 on Sep 19, 2006
Yes PDF should be a final format. In reality, however, it's never the case, because people want to modify the format again and again for their needs. It makes sense, because it's a WYSIWYG Viewable Document format ACROSS ALL PLATFORMS that isn't rivalled to date.
zapatero reviewed v3.02 on Sep 19, 2006
pdfFactory, PdfCreator and OpenOffice all produce the same PDFs- that is, files that can be read with Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader. In principle, a PDF is not editable. PDF is a format for distribution of read-only documents.
yokozuna reviewed v3.02 on Sep 19, 2006
pjafrombbay, I afraid that you are wrong. OpenOffice, which I use every day and I love it, does not produce ANY pdf files. Try to open the files with Adobe Acrobat and you will know what I am writing about. OOo produces something what appears to be "like pdf files" but which are not editable.
I do not neglect that there are many virtual PDF printers (e.g. I like go2pdf - a simple program, only 264 kilobytes in size!). I think that pdfFactory is one of the best among them.
zapatero, I mentioned Adobe ACROBAT, not Adobe READER (previously known as Adobe Acrobat Reader). Believe or not, but you cannot EDIT any "pdf" file made by OOo, you can only VIEW them. More about the Adobe Acrobat family: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat You can download a fully functional copy of AR from there and try it yourself.
oomingmak reviewed v3.01 on Aug 25, 2006
Arrogant developers that flatly refuse to fix proven bugs from versions as far back as v1.64 (over 3 years ago).
Once upon a time PDF converters were thin on the ground, but now there are plenty of (much better) alternatives to this.
pjafrombbay reviewed v3.01 on Aug 25, 2006
This product is simply *TOO* expensive. If you need to produce good quality PDFs then the two approaches are:
1. Use PDFCreator (http://www.pdfforge.org/) which installs as a new 'printer' that prints *ANY* document (including web pages) to a PDF file. Any application that has a 'File>Print' menu option can produce good quality PDF files.
2. Use Open Office - there is an 'Export to PDF' main menu bar option. Again, this produces very good quality PDF files.
The added benefit of both these options is that they are absolutely *FREE*.

Peter

I agree. Like so many "upgrades" these days, this doesn't justify a full version. Same company, but here they decided to add some nifty new features to pdfFactory Pro and uncouple it from FinePrint's upgrade cycle. You really have a lot more control over how your PDF document will look and print, and you can import and export any letterhead, watermarks, and customizations (such as exactly how you like bookmarks, page numbers, or thumbnails to appear).
FinePrint still sells the FinePrint/pdfFactory Pro bundle for $110, or FinePrint/pdfFactory for $80, which are values. In the meantime, to get this upgrade for $30, go here.
zapatero reviewed v3.0 on Aug 4, 2006
V. 3
Good as usually, but the new features don´t seem to justify an upgrade to "3". Some of them are available in v. 2.x printing first to FinePrint, then to pdfFactory. Also, it appears that the bundle with Fineprint is not available anymore. New management?
zridling reviewed v2.46 on Dec 15, 2005
Problem is, PDFCreator is junk and consistently crashes in XP. If you're not using pdfFactory Pro, you're just crazy.
berserkchaos reviewed v2.46 on Dec 15, 2005
I prefer PDFCreator... it's freeware and it works in win2k3.
yokozuna reviewed v2.43 on Jul 20, 2005
KSzostek, please do not write such dumb things unless you own a software company. Nobody forces you to buy anything (unless the market is monopolised). Moreover, you have alternatives, even pdfFactory comes in two flavours and even more bundles. You can decide which product/bundle is better before you spend your money (because it is shareware!). The decision is up to you only.
I think that pdfFactory is a good product. Definitely deserves respect. 5/5
Inray reviewed v2.42 on Jul 11, 2005
There are many PDF creators out there, including of course the "original" Adobe Acrobat.
Some of them are small and fast others slow and huge, a few just do the job.
PDF Factory is small, fast, compatible with the latest standards and due its nature, a virtual printer driver, it works with any application.
Highly Recommented
zridling reviewed v2.42 on Jun 2, 2005
The price above is deceptive, as FinePrint wants to sell you their FinePrint/pdfFactory Pro bundle for only $110. So yes, you'd be crazy to buy this alone at $99. You can even get the plain version bundled for $60. IMO all software costs too much! Part of the blame goes to the USD being weaker than it's been in 75 years. Sad. Still pdfFactory Pro kills.
KSzostek reviewed v2.41 on Apr 14, 2005
When are these companies going to learn how to price their products? Way to high there is better for less.
zridling reviewed v2.35 on Jan 31, 2005
Bachalor's right, but the FinePrint Software folks really want you to buy the FinePrint/PDF Factory Pro bundle, which is only $10 more. FinePrint is the steal, whereas PDF Factory Pro is the icing. This is word-of-mouth software, meaning, once you start using it, you'll tell everyone how wonderful it is and how they can't live without it.
Bachalor reviewed v2.32 on Jan 22, 2005
OK, it is a nice tool. But for a student like me is it absolute to expensive.

Anyone who hasn't discovered both pdfFactory Pro and FinePrint is missing out on on the best utilities you can have on your computer. They pay for themselves in the first month alone, but when combined with FinePrint, it becomes a powerhouse. The FinePrint folks do PDF very, very well. Test it for yourself and see.
