I can't believe people are rating this so low.

I replaced Lightning (thunderbird) and Outlook calendar with this and NEVER looked back.
I input stuff directly in Rainlendar and don't need the pro version (which only includes google calendar + outlook calendar support).

It's free, portable, stable, and does what it says! Right now it's taking 8.3MB with a calendar full of stuff. Sometimes it does take as high as 14-16MB, but seriously, if it does what I want (and does it well), who cares?

Jeez. You guys complain about a few megs of memory. My s***box uses a tad over 13 mb just so I can have a simple but useable desk calendar, and I have only a gig of ddr400. ProcessExplorer uses more on mine (17+).
It for me is practical and has a small desktop footprint which is what is important. LClock has a nice calendar too, but it can't do what this can nor will it run in sharpenviro.
You should really suggest a better (I bet u can't) one than use memory as an excuse to bash a perfectly good piece of software. This is the only program I run that has a pro version which is saying a lot for the software itself.

With this products footprint taking more and more I see "no" reason to upgrade from a earlier version if you can find it. I would like for that version as it was a "great" app for what it does.
Since I do not run Outlook it is a great app for me!
If you can balance what you use and what you do not this version my still be a useful program. It's about time all apps start migration to Win7 so lets see still where this goes before condemning it to far down!
\Does what it is suppose too, works great!

This used to be a decent, if a bit buggy, app way back in the day. But man, it's just turned into a bloated unstable mess. I feel bad that the program went in that direction, because it had a great deal of potential, imo.

shicaca: You're a student and can't afford $20 for an application that you would use? Who pays your tuition and housing? Rainlendar is an excellent program and Rainy cannot continue writing his software and providing support for it without turning a profit. When someone charges $20, they are subsidizing the development cost.

idodialog

idodialog reviewed v2.1 Build 39 Beta on May 15, 2007

I used Rainy way back when and it was fun and useful, but that was then and now - well if it can't get my Google Calendars its a no go, if it can't sync with outlook its useless - pity coz the skinnable interfaces were appealing.

shicaca

shicaca reviewed v2.1 Build 38 on Apr 16, 2007

(to response to earlier message)

If you use a Palm, you will use outlook. I'm a student, therefor paying $20 for a calendar app after paying what I had to in order to use MS Office is out of the question.

Like another said -- $5, maybe. $20? No.

And directly at your question: "Who uses Outlook at home, anyways?" I do.

If more companies/ppl gave demos instead of immediately crippling their software, they'd get more $$ for their projects. This is why, again, I say: Tripe.

simko

simko reviewed v2.1 Build 37 Beta on Apr 10, 2007

Great program does what it says its fun when a developer want to earn money from his work instantly the porgam he has made is crap.

Anyway who use outlook at home anyway? its crap.
At work you can minimize it so its next to the clock and you will get a notice as sson a event is to happen or you get new mail.

Ian C.

Ian C. reviewed v2.1 Build 37 Beta on Apr 10, 2007

This was a great program back before the non free pro version was launched. Since then they totally gutted the free version, not much use anymore. And I totally can't justify spending $20 on such a small piece of software, maybe if it was $5.

shicaca

shicaca reviewed v2.1 Build 37 Beta on Apr 9, 2007

Absolutely useless since the unregistered version (non-PRO) does not allow you to use MS Outlook calendars. In fact that's one of two features it does explicitly NOT allow. Tripe.

I don't use any other than my own content with this, my to dos and calendar events, and this program works flawlessly for these purposes.
The calendar events with the alarm options are deep and clear, the "to do" list is right the same and the proggie in Desktop Mode doesn't clutter your desktop at all, it just show there permanently and lets you have all of your data at a glance with a stylish & pretty look. Just awesome!

@astovidiu
Funny thing is... me to. There is only one reason why. The todo list doesnt skip to the next line when it becomes to long, so if you write a long todo list entry it wont show all of it, 0.22 does.
But I would sure love the easy to install skins that has come with version 2.

All in all, Rainlender, a great piece of software.

astovidiu

astovidiu reviewed v2.1 Build 35 Beta on Mar 21, 2007

I'm using version 0.22 and I like the fact that it work with ics calendars - alarms an all - (imported from google calendar). When I tried 2.x versions of this application none of them worked properly with ics calendars.
So, at least from this point of view, this version sucks.

DudeBoyz

DudeBoyz reviewed v2.1 Build 35 Beta on Mar 20, 2007

I'm kinda disappointed by the new 2.x series. I went back to 0.2x after trying this for a few hours. The configurations are much more confusing and I cannot get it to show multiple calendars like I do with the old series :(

lhdal

lhdal reviewed v2.0.1 on Dec 16, 2006

Uses much more resources than Rainlendar 0.2x series.

There are lots of gadget applications that support a calendar.

And the reason I chose Rainlendar was because it used much less resources. Now it uses more than those.

The program configuration window couldn't be less user friendly.

If I didn't know 0.2x series, I would say this version is fine but I know how things used to be better.

I am feeling that this version is made to be compatible with Linux. And that made many sacrifices from the previous version.

I'm still using 0.22 and as soon as I find the better alternative, I will swith to it as that version won't be updated any more.

AntiochMedia

AntiochMedia reviewed v2.0.1 on Dec 2, 2006

Well - I don't use the Outlook Sync feature? Why? Sorry to troll, but Outlook sucks =) Okay, I'm trolling...

I've been using Rainlendar for a while and have loved the improvements in the 2.0 version - it's just easier to use and manage, the UI is cleaned up a bit - and hell, it's the best personal organizer I've found as it uses low resources, works as a desktop widget, and is easy to manipulate without feeling like you need to bend over backwards to use it.

As Rainlendar -IS- such a useful tool, if the lite version were taken away entirely, I would pay a reasonable amount for it. I paid for SwishMax - as I'm not a very good flash developer and I'm quite handy at Swish. The same goes for Rainlendar - it's a productivity tool that I rely on and the fact that a free version is still offered thrills me. There is a motivated individual by the name of 'Rainy' who makes this and there's nothing like it!

Now - my one feature request =) - Tasks, Events, and a Calendar... neat - I want one more thing added! I want a simple window that can also be attached that I can freely write in. Post-it-notes if you will.

I hate to see free apps split off into retail at the expense of features.

Cutting features out of an existing app and making them exclusive to the pay version just seems wrong somehow.

Maybe freeze the free version featurewise and only add NEW features to the retail version, but to actually take features away from users and force them to pay to get them back, that is lame.

Still, that out of the way, the app is getting more stable and that's key, cause I stopped using it some time back because of its instability.

Glad to see it is being updated, even if it has fallen somewhat behind.

bid reviewed v2.0.1 on Nov 28, 2006

Installing Rainlender beta I found once I made entries to the calendar and then went on to do something else, a simple mouse click wiped out any entries I made to the calendar. Including any additional calendars I made. This has happened several times. I do like the overall usefulness of the program. If only it worked!!

Jaz-M-Taz

Jaz-M-Taz reviewed v2.0 b23 on Oct 16, 2006

I love this program, but although it’s a beta, I give it a "4" because of two problems I've noticed:

1) I use different calendar programs to manage a multiple calendar data files "[filename].ics", and when I dismiss a reminder in rainlendar, then it causes an error in other calendar programs when I try to open that data file.
2) I have multiple user accounts for different family members, and we all have rainlendar running on each desktop, but with different local and network calendar data files. I get and error if I add too many to limited user accounts, or while other users are logged on with rainlendar running, or sometimes when trying to add network calendars after adding local calendars. I lose all the calendars, and the settings for rainlendar. The calendars are back when I close the program and re-open it, but any changes are gone.

Rainlendar has been my solution for a Calendar and Scheduling after looking into Outlook and then trying builds of Thunderbird Lightning.

With a few quick configuration changes, Rainlendar is a perminant widget on my desktop that raises from 0 to 100 opacity smoothly upon mouse over... adding new events and editing details is point and click simple without any unnecessary fields... it's FAST... and honestly, it's the only Calendar that I don't have to schedule time to sit down and wrestle with! Brilliant Stuff!

Here's What's New:
* Fixed the task list not appearing from the Outlook.
* The iCalPlugin used incorrect extension for vCal files. Fixed.
* The birthdays didn't show correct year always. Fixed.
* Double clicking the event list header opens the correct day now.
* Time items showed incorrect year day. Fixed.
* The time in the event dialog can be defined like this now too: PM 10:00
* Improved iCalendar recurrency support.

I haven't encountered any problems with this version. I've used previous version before, and typically it works as it says it does. I am still experimenting with this one and have to give it at least a 4. It's a good calendar, is extremely small, and FREE.

ZenWarrior: Take note that this is BETA ware. If you did not backup your system BEFORE installing this, or any other beta ware, you got what you deserve. The FIRST rule of beta testing is imaging your drive as it is, to give you something to go back to should problems arise. Flaming the software because it has problems in BETA stage is simply asanine.

A fantastic piece of software turned into utter crap with this release. Stay away from it at all costs. I'm still trying to reconstruct a calendar that is my lifeline. I'm now certain to miss an appointment at some time. Not at all acceptable.

Just say "No" to this release. The upgrade failed, and then the re-installation of the previous version left my calendar in shambles. It even appears I may have to return to Outlook. (Yes, 'tis that sad.)

In fact, after this disaster, so much for upgrading again. What I had, v0.21.1, worked just fine. Heed my advice and don't fix what is not broken. Otherwise, it most certainly will need fixing.

I wish this rating scale went higher. There is a minor glitch with the new version -- you need to build the missing ini files as empty text files to make the config utility work properly but once you do --- WOW! this is a nice down and dirty calendar app that does all that the casual users needs without using Outlook or some other bloated PIM plus it is fully skinable! The home page has additional skins as does skinbase. Nice app, small memory footprint, unobtrusive. 5 stars are not enough for this polished beta, in spite of the missing ini's. Microsoft take notice of what someone can do for free.

A Suggestion is to have an option for multiple month display ie for the month of june I'd be able to view May-June-July. A one month display gets a little tight at the end/beginning of the month.

Love the hook into outlook appointments.

thanks

I have been using this for a long time and it is one of the best out there for desktop calendars. Never had any problems.

Nice program .. it needs improvment incase of bad entry of skin ini. For example, misleading background image would result in not showing at all. Otherwise it very promissing program. Keep the good work Rainy...

Excellent! Looks good and does what it says. Not a bloated app with lots of extra non-related stuff. I recommend it.
