YamiPod works great on my older Nano but, sadly, it lacks ability to sync on the newest iPods such as the Touch. I find it easy to use and small in disk space required. There needs to be a better FAQ/help page but the info is there if you look for it. That said, there is a Linux version I also use on an old computer running Debian so it gives me the same interface with either OS.

Yami works as advertised (on the models it says it supports). Here's hoping that a newer version will soon sync with the latest iPods.

For all you whiners out there, this isn't designed to be your primary media player. It's not gonna have every stupid bell and whistle that iTunes has. It's a simple, portable, well written app that allows you to have all of the BASIC functionality of iTunes and take it with you ON YOUR IPOD. Let's see Winamp or iTunes or whatever other media player app do that.

Tried it on booth Vista and XP, very crash prone and the interface is not very user friendly. I agree with Uecic, Winamp has the program to use if you want easy Ipod management.

I tried it, but I stay with Winamp 5.5 & ml_ipod 3.02 plug-in the best ipod manager according to me. You can do anything you want with your ipod (music, videos, photos, podcast...) from your HDD or to your HDD. Really simple and it works with Vista and all ipods (except ipodTouch). Winamp rules.

Awesome little program - Now my IPOD is truly portable! I can connect it to any machine without having to install Itunes or any other bloated software package which is truly what kept my from buying an IPod in the first place. My old Insignia MP3 player came with some Itunes-like software but it was an OPTIONAL install - if you didn't like it you could just copy music/videos to the player using explorer or your favorite filemanager. All music players should be like that instead of forcing to install proprietary drivers and music management software. I'm not bashing ITunes I have friends that swear by it but then they are noobs.

If you're using Vista you're stuck with Itunes until YamiPod is updated for that OS.

YamiPod 1.4 is working flawless without iTunes.
I tried it in a computer there iTunes has never been installed. It does a good job.

About Floola. It is also very good AND it can add Album Art. Some minor problem with that, but it will be fixed. However, the last version B51 thought that I had iTunes running on the computer with iTunes. It is NOT running there. Without iTunes computer, no problems.

About Sharepod. I had some problems with that one. It gave me 8 playlists from the one single playlist. However, the restore function worked flawless.

All these 3 programs can run directly inside your iPod. No need to install in your friends computers.
    And more... No bloatware!

I agree that foola is probably a better product but YamiPod still does a good job. There seems to be a bit of confusion about whether iTunes is needed or not for YamiPod to work. Can somebody state whether it is needed or not and back it up with proof. eg... a link to a website.

Used to be an alternative. But without I-Tunes it is pretty much useless. I have found http://www.floola.com/modules/wiwimod/ and this ROCKS! Freeware too and can even work with the ipod WITHOUT I-tunes ever having been installed. Give FLOOLA a try, you will then see why this scores a 3 from me.

You are obviously a dimwit and are using a rubbish antivirus package that spits out false positives. Low intelligence beginners like yourself should google this situation before making these allegations (e.g. "he is a crook"). If you did you would see that you are an idiot along with all the others that use your substandard anti virus software.

Also plays music, and supports drag and drop. Very light and easy to use. Go ahead and try it, it really works well.

    Excellent program, as always.

Beware of the computer-illiterate, posting false claims of virus infection. Betanews will pull the file if it's infected--they will find a virus faster than a user since they don't want to get a bad reputation.

Also, I can prove that the person below me is WRONG because you can just do a google search and find HOARDS of people claiming virus infection on hoards of different programs--those people are already infected, and/or their antivirus software is providing false positives, which is common when they're already infected (because their scanner is likely to be infected) or use a junky virus scanner.

This does not need an install and consists of a single file, which I like.
In addition, it works perfectly for me (using an iPod Shuffle), and doesn't need iTunes as opposed to what has been said said below.
I can't think of anything bad to say as off now.
*EDIT* Right, so I spoke too soon and I was wrong. After unplugging the iPod, read a couple of songs, and plug it back in, the software complained about a corrupted playlist and quits. Well, I didn't do ANYTHING since last time apart from reading songs. So I formatted the Shuffle, but then YamiPod doesn't recognise it anymore. Back to the drawing board I'm afraid, I'm disappointed :( And back to vPod for me (not as good as, but it's small, and more importantly, it works!).

Yamipod DOES NOT require itunes in any way whatsoever; that is an incorrect statement made by a novice computer user. If you're even a little bit tech-savvy, you'll find, like me, that you can simply add a folder called "itunes" within the "ipod_control" folder.

ITUNES IS NOT NEEDED AT ALL, EVER--that is a false statement made by a novice user!

    Keep it up Tomas!

sure it lacks some features that say Anapod has like the ability to copy videos to your iPod, but YamiPod is FREE and FREE is a very good price and my reason for not just giving this a 4, but instead a 5. Without developers like this one we'd all be doomed to forking out cash just to avoid the bloated iTunes.

    Yes,

It works with an Ipod shuffle. It's a good program, but it's missing a feature that I am missing dearly to use it with my shuffle: Auto fill. It's great to just plugin the Shuffle and have it filled with random songs by iTunes. I could not figure out whether that is possible with Yamipod.

This prog works, it is a fact. It works really slow, this is other fact. In a few words this program is not suitable for everyday use for a couple of reasons: no support at all(I mean that developer ignores e-mails, don't answer them and bugs are ofter are not got fixed after reporting ...) In addition this program can't operate with tags in national languages that aren't unicoded, periodically it freases and can't be closed even with taskManager, mp3player works not on all machines, and ... AND it slow as hell on my AMD1900+ ... I suggest you to try AnapodExplorer, of course it cost some money, but you could give it a chance ...
