Does not work, at least with Gmail accounts. Decent design though.

This program completely trashed my firewall (leaving just the driver loaded) so I was left with no internet and no LAN access.

The problem was not fixed even after uninstalling it. I had to go through and fix manually file by file and then use another computer to connect direct to the net to dowload my firewall software so that I could re-install it from scratch.

The Hotmail Plus and Live Mail support are much welcomed, and very well implemented. No problems thus far. A best multi-protocol tray email checker I have found.

I have been away from computers since September of 2005 and missed releases from that time--I am back now and this program still does what I want it to do, flawlessly! Great customer support as well.

Still no Hotmail Plus OR Live Mail Beta support?! Virtually every other mail notifer I have tried supports these, even most IM clients! Sadly, DynAdvance had my favorite interface!

Still excellent software. I had the license key problem as well, but my reply only took 20 minutes!
I have no problems keeping track of my email accounts and the support has been second to none.

OK...ack! I got the update and now my serial number no longer works. I'm hoping this is only temporary.
I STILL love the program!!!! LOL....and I'm going to recommend it to all my friends with multiple gmail/yahoo/msn/pop accounts.
It's REALLY handy.

P.S

I wrote to them about my key and in a few hours I got a new working key. Thanks! Can't stress enough how great this program is.

Neoprimal, you don't have to worry about the program stealing your passwords. It is not our intention to harm users, but to offer a quality product that combines all the important features a user would need.

You can easily check with a firewall that the program does not connect, send or receive information from any server besides the email servers you specify in your account list.

Besides, what would one do with your email credentials anyway ?

After trying to find a gmail multiple account notifier, I came across this. Tested it for 3 days and now I bought 2 licenses for me and the wifey. Awesome program, is all I can say. It checks all like, 15 of my email accounts spread out across hotmail/msn, gmail, yahoo and my pop accounts. Auto-login is SO handy....
My worst fear is that someone, somewhere now has my email passwords (after all, someone wrote the program, and whoever writes the program can get these passwords if they want to). But I guess time will tell on that aspect.

jon8rfc

jon8rfc reviewed v1.1.85 on Aug 28, 2005

Working flawlessly and efficiently. I haven't yet encountered a program developer that is as helpful, responsive and concerned with their program as Catalin is with Dynadvance Notifier.

I'll think the program is finished or can't get any better, but Catalin always surprises me.

Sorry. After uninstalling Mail Notifier and reinstalling this new version, then removing all cookies and files from IE and Firefox and manually ensuring I was totally logged out of Hotmail....I still get the Internet Access Error of Doom.

I do have a paid Hotmail account, and presumably that is the issue, but why don't the various instant messaging proggies I have used trip up over this? They are all (Gaim, Miranda, IM2) perfectly able to notify me of new mail....

Great, but it has a problem with Gmail, sometimes it doesn't show that you have mail, even after pressing the check mail button, while you really have mail in your inbox, adding my Gmail account information a second time solved the problem... So I cannot consider it flawless

I like this software. It checks all my accounts for me, and whenever I find that it can't check any, there is usually an update available already....
I don't begrudge paying $7.99 for this software, especially at the exchange rate I got!

jon8rfc

jon8rfc reviewed v1.1.62 on May 26, 2005

Working flawlessly. Whenever yahoo changes something, Catalin is right there with an updated Notifier.

For the past few versions, it feels like checking my 10 (4 gmail, 4 yahoo, 3 pop3) email accounts has sped up a small bit. That's pretty handy for when I want to do a quick manual check before leaving the computer.

jon8rfc

jon8rfc reviewed v1.1.53 on Mar 25, 2005

I used the free program and then registered for an agreeable $7.99 and couldn't be happier. Constant updates and improvements are always rolling out the door. Poptray doesn't support Yahoo Mail or pop3, and Yahoo Mail is one of the largest email providers out there! Auto-login into all of my web email accounts makes everything a breeze. Since Internet Explorer can't have cookies for 4 different Yahoo Mail accounts and 3 Gmail accounts all active at the same time, this allows me to auto-login, with a double-click, to any of those email accounts...QUICKLY.

ryanb0885

ryanb0885 reviewed v1.1.31 Beta on Feb 7, 2005

The newest version (1.1.36) eliminates the ability to use the free version. Unfortunately, I replaced my old installer before I realized this, so I'm now stuck without a notifier for my webmail.

Poptray appears to have plug-ins for Gmail, but even the author states that it's in beta. I guess I have no choice but to give it a shot.

Carlospr

Carlospr reviewed v1.1.31 Beta on Jan 31, 2005

Keep a program as a freeware is not easy, because the developer has to pay for each download made from his web address.

Anyway, you can use it for free (up to two accounts).

The program has nice features and it will be better, since plugins are now supported.

I agree, I prefer PopTray too - it's perfect *and* free: http://fileforum.betanew...ail/PopTray/984814282/1

dkratter

dkratter reviewed v1.1.28 Beta on Jan 13, 2005

Started out as a free beta, the author gladly accepted bug reports and suggestions, and when they were implemented or fixed, he switched to shareware. The program itself was decent, but the author should have stated from the beginning that he was just using the public as guinea pigs, rather than pretending he was offering them free software. Check out PopTray at http://www.poptray.org/ , which is both a better program and is free.

This is a quality program and I've enjoyed it for months. I'm not questioning the caliber of this, but when this went from freeware preview to something you have to pay a (small) price for, I never saw the logic of paying for something that checks my free mail accounts.

Great program, best notifier I've used. Too bad it's not free anymore as it's not worth paying for IMO. The author seems to work on it hard and update it fast when needed. I have nothing bad to say about this but the price.

yes, end of Mail Notifier as freeware. Till 1.1 version, no one knew that it would be a paid program. People helped the developer as for ideas but finally they got hands empty.

Time to look for something esle.

Was a great program while it lasted as freeware. Now that it is shareware, time to look for something new. Could have used an email preview screen (not just a popup window) but other than that it was great :D

This one works well, it's pretty simple. I was using it for Gmail and I like the auto-login feature when you wnat to look at your mail.

Of course now that Gmail supports POP mail pop peeper is a bit better and also uses less memory when just sitting in the tray.

I thought the gmail notifier was cool, then I thought this was cool...then I realized I could put ALL of my email accounts from 3 completely different sources and have them checked FOR ME, when I want it to. Its memory usage isn't great, but it's better than average. Overall, I like this a LOT!

Another great release :)
Somethings are not fully implemented yet, but it just gets better and better with each release.
Supports multiple:hotmail, yahoo, pop3 and gmail accounts at the moment. Great message preview too.
Also, it has a cool multiple-accounts-from-the-same-email-server aspect re: auto-logins.

Simple, yet brilliant app.

Oups! My bad. Indeed it acts like pressing Read when double clicking, albeit there is a slight delay. And indeed it uses the default browser, something set it back to IE without me noticing, duh :( So a 5 stars, with the previous 4 that's an average twice 4.5, which is the mark I would give it :) Neat!
PS: I tried POP Peeper as suggested below, and it's simply incredible! Allows to read,reply,... emails as well, and since I don't have GMail, frankly it's more appealling to me. Mail notifier is still very good though, so I'll leave it the 5 stars.

cstavaru

cstavaru reviewed v1.0.108 Beta on Aug 18, 2004

I have some things to say: Double-clicking an account DOES act like pressing the "Read" button. And the program does not use IE by default, it uses your default browser. So set your favorite browser as default, and it will be used :)

cricri_pingouin

cricri_pingouin reviewed v1.0.108 Beta on Aug 18, 2004

I use it to check my Yahoo and Hotmail accounts, and it just works, simple as that. It replaced ePrompter which does some stuff underhand I didn't like. However, ePrompter allowed to actually read the emails. A couple of requests, a "play" button to test the selected wave please, an option to select the browser, and maybe double clicking an account being equivalent to clicking the read button (instead of click account then click Read button, too much work!). also, it uses IE by default, but I actually block it with my firewall and use another flavour of IE (namely Maxthon). Thus it would be cool if I could point to that one instead. Still, 4 stars for now, I'm sure it will deserve the top 5 stars later :)
