Publisher's Description
YPOPs! is an open-source initiative to provide free POP3 access to your Yahoo! Mail account. It emulates a POP3 server and enables popular email clients like Outlook, Netscape, Eudora, Mozilla, etc. to download email from Yahoo! accounts. It provides a POP3 server interface at one end to talk to email clients and an HTTP client (browser) interface at the other which allows it to talk to Yahoo.

Yahoo is, of course, aware of this software and is able to react quickly to any changes that allow it to actually work. With this new version, I was able to use it once before it refused to download email. Surprisingly, I am still able to send using (in my case) Outlook 2003).
I certainly cannot blame Yahoo for blocking YPOPs from working. They lose profit for each user that is able to do so...but there are other free webmail providers that do allow free POP3 access, including GMail.

This is a great piece of software. I have only been using it for a couple of months. The version I'm using is 0.9.5.3
I am able to send and receive email from my yahoo.com account with this version. I also did not switch to the newer interface for yahoo a few months back because I did not like it. Since I am not as computer literate as a lot of you I guess I will not be changing to YPOP's newest version. You know it's the old (if it's not broke don't fix it thing)
I'm afraid if I switch to the newer version of YPOP's I will start having the problems of sending mail like everyone else is having. I know this is not much help I just wanted people to know that this is a great piece of software and I sure hope that the bugs get worked out for everyone.
I would also say that this is a piece of software that when it is stable enough for the average (dumb) user like myself I would have no problem paying for it if it came to that. Keep up the good work and I hope you can get it all figured out.

Definitely is a best software. I have used this before that can able to bypass the proxy setting where the POP and SMTP ports are blocked. If there are not blocked have a look at my googlepages namely http://tamilgnu.googlepages.com/yahoo!mail probably should help as well.

When this works it works great. However, it breaks about every 2-3 months and then doesn't work for at least 2 weeks (when Yahoo changes their pages). It was such a hassle to hack POP3 access from Yahoo that I have gladly paid for Yahoo Mail Plus for the past two years. E-mail is just too mission critical to not have a patch turn around time measured in hours.

I rarely give ANYTHING a 5 out here, but this one has earned it.
Works perfectly, good documentation and instructions, simple to setup.
Good job to the developers!

0.9.2 is obviously a small update. I don't know exactly what changes were made, but the application continues to work seamlessly. A 5.
Perhaps the YPops people could publish a change log.
alohanela reviewed v0.8.8 on Dec 8, 2006
This program is awesome. I recommend it to all my Yahoo mail contacts.
dssdbs: Beware, it does not work if you elect to use Yahoo Mail Beta. That could be the problem. If you chose Beta, you can change back. I'm don't think this issue was addressed in the latest version. The changelog is in their homepage.

This is only for Yahoo access.
And it does that properly in nearly all aspects.
All other one-in-all software has their flaws. They don't hide it either. For example one of the best doesn't support sending mail.
Btw Gmail doesn't need an access software. You can check directly with an e-mail client by setting from Gmail options.
Also many e-mail clients support Hotmail. (anyone still use hotmail?)
jcor1955 reviewed v0.8.7.1 on Nov 1, 2006
I've used this program for years and it's great. You don't need Yahoo Plus to access your e-mail using Outlook, Microsoft Outlook, etc. (By the way Utomo this software is used to access your Yahoo webmail using an e-mail client. It has nothing to do with accessing other e-mail like Gmail, Hotmail, etc).
Bandyt reviewed v0.8.7 on Oct 19, 2006
utomo - You need to spend more time evaluating the program. Go to Tools/Accounts and add your other POP accounts. I'm currently checking 8 accounts under 2 names, only 2 of which are Yahoo accounts.
utomo reviewed v0.8.7 on Oct 18, 2006
It just yahoo pop.
It need to support other webmail, such as gmail, mailcity, hotmail and others.
otherwise people will choose other software which will support more.

I have been using yahoo mail for more than 4 years and I can access the yahoo free mails directly through POP and SMTP. (I have signed up with yahoo.co.in and later I moved the server to USA.)I doubt about the pop smtp acees for yahoo free mail. However in my office where I am working POP and SMTP are disabled. ypops is the way to go with. It's really a good program.

Yevaud is absolutely correct. YPOPs! is still the best way for a user to get a FREE Yahoo email account into his or her favorite email clients Inbox. Good work, YPOPs!
yevaud reviewed v0.8.6 on Jul 17, 2006
To the user who asked why this software even existed, since Yahoo provides pop3 access to its email... I believe you must have an enhanced account. According to the software's webpage:
> Yahoo! Mail disabled free access to its POP3
> service on 24th April, 2002.
I am not able to verify this for certain since I have had enhanced yahoo mail for a while now..
noBuddy reviewed v0.8.6 on Jul 17, 2006
So, after 5 years I logged in the webpage of my free Yahoo-mail. Just to see the Options (it´s yahoo.de)
They offer POP free Download directly, for free. No words of advanced user or something. Well, so if for you this program is great, give it a 5. For me it´s useless, but I don´t know, if NEW Yahoomails don´t have this free POP3-Access. And, too tired to get a new account, just for testing.
But, read your options, I know people who have POP3 access with their Free-Yahoomail, registered this year. But maybe Yahoo makes differences between users, THAT´S REALLY BAD !

foobar234 - You are probably paying for the service or Yahoo has yet to discover you arent paying.
I love this program. It even wipes out my bulk folder for me to keep my storage usage low. I recommend.
dcarrico reviewed v0.4.6 on Jun 15, 2003
This program works great. It allows you to read your Yahoo!mail in Outlook Express or any other POP3 mail client.
It's PURPOSE is to give you SMTP and POP3 access to your Yahoo!mail account without *PAYING* for the add-on service. If your PAYING for additional storage from Yahoo! then you do not need this utility.
foobar234 reviewed v0.4.5 on May 14, 2003
Erm, I already use both Outlook and POP Peeper to access my Yahoo account. All I did was follow the instructions found here : http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-05.html.
I have been doing so for as long as I can remember...
(I gave it a 3 not because it is bad - but because it has no purpose... at least not for me.)
Grandpas reviewed v0.4.5 on May 12, 2003
Good program and happy to see a new feature which allows to hide the icon from the taskbar. I'm waiting for an option to run yahoopop as a NT service ... during this time, I'm keeping Mrpostman (run as a service with Wrapper).

An excellent program.
I’ve been looking for a program that does this for ages.
I can’t fault it, even on its highest security settings it still downloads from Yahoo far quicker than the built-in hotmail checker in Outlook Express.
It could do with some work on the help file though, as I feel the information for setting it up to work with OE are a bit hard to follow (sequences wrong, etc) and could confuse a novice.
Apart from that I’ve not come across any problems with it so far.

Yahoo Pops is really good s/w. I get all my yahoo messages in my outlook... coming to web2pop there are lots of isses..
1. its not free. 2. doesnt support hotmail anymore. 3. always duplicates my yahoo messages
4. always downloads messages from yahoo even if i set it to leave messages on the server.
i'll give 5 * to yahoo pops.

I don't know why this took so long to update from 0.4.0, but it's been a long time in coming - and it works just as well as 0.3.9?! Anyway, it works and lets me check my Yahoo mail with Outlook, rather than having to log into 4 different accounts on the web. 5 stars! ;-)
Wet-wired reviewed v0.4.2 on Mar 30, 2003
Is this seriously supposed to be a real program? It couldnt find ANYTHING and leaves almost everything to be desired when compared to other P2P programs. Sorry, but you really should spend some time on a program to make it worth testing before you release it.
Kompressor reviewed v0.4.2 on Mar 29, 2003
The only difference I can see between YahooPOPs and Web2Pop is YahooPOPs is limited to only Yahoo. I’d give it 1 star for that reason, but I’ll give it 2 because it’s free. Although it’s a great program if all you use is Yahoo, but there are other free web mail services out there that are much better than Yahoo. That’s where Web2Pop comes in. I give Web2Pop 5 stars, not just because it’s a good program but because you’re not limited to just one service, and you can use multiple services at the same time if you wish.
