The very 1st TC is from 1993. I doubt Speed Commander is older than that.

A good program IMO, adds stuff compared to TC but most of it is useless to me and it's nowhere near as fast as TC.

Given that SpeedCommander existed years before Total/Windows Commander, I'm amazed by TC's fanboy commants about how SpeedCommander is a knockoff ... :-)

(And no, no one can expect a developer to speak all languages fluently enough. Less English nationalism please!)

I've used a free version of this program for years and find that it works very well.
Lots of options and modern UI.
-1 for being way too expensive.

Standard $54.93
Pro $82.43

This looks to be quite an ordinary piece of software compared to Xplorer2 (http://fileforum.betanew...l/XplorerA/1125310745/1). Xplorer2 not only seems to be much better but is available as a free version or a USD19.95 paid version. I have used Xplorer2 for many years and highly recommend it.

Unit Price: USD 62.11
Total: USD 62.11

Does not match what this site say's it costs, nearly twice as expensive.

Take a look at DirOpus from GPSoft. Nothing better, IMHO...

More customizable visually than Total Commander, and a better overall appearance than most comparable Commander's (TC included). The configuration options are very well organized,

Development seems more active/frequent than TC, but if you are used to some of the hardcore Total Commander features (Like ToolBar or Menu editing to name a few) then you'll find this application lacking.

Seems better than XYPlorer, which still lacks basic FTP and which only begrudgingly added DualPane recently.

As others have noted, no English help file -- there is an English forum that has some support, but one shouldn't have to go to a forum to ask basic feature-usage questions.

4+ If you're German.

Another good file manager along the ranks of Total Commander and X2plorer. Has built-in Zip, FTP/FTPS/SFTP and advanced file renaming capabilities. With the plethora of File Manager/Explorer replacements out there boasting similar features it's difficult to pick a reason why you should use this one. I was a big user of Norton Commander back in the DOS days and that is what drew me to it. I prefer it to TC but definitely this is not as powerful as X2plorer - just easier to use.

Haven't tried Directory Opus so I can't compare but as Second Shadow pointed out all their support forums are in German.

Basically, if you don't speak/read/write German, you're pretty much SOL as far as Support goes with this software.

Just take a look at their Support Forum:
http://forum.speedprojec...rumdisplay.php?&f=6

95% of it is in German.

Nein, danke.

Looks good, but.
The program lacks a "compare files" and a few other things including an English help-file, not everyone speak German.

Last but not least the price is way higher than what it claims on this site, it says 37.95$ but it is, 37.95€ / 59.12$.

Much to much for this program IMHO.

another cheap TC knock-off. why do people bother trying to best what's already bestest and will always be?

This is by far the best file manager i have tried. In Windows XP i still use AB Commander, but in Vista this program is more stable.

Especially i like the clearness of the interface and the customizability and the look and feel. Visually it is in my opinion the best. It's of course a subjective thing, but for my eyes this is the best choice (colors, icons, bold file/folder names etc.). It's commands are versatile and absolutely logical.

The program has so many useful features that it is not possible to list them here, please see the author's website.

this is a poor attempt to duplicate TC... it's really poor in features...
and about XYplorer... dude.. plssss... it's pretty patetic compared to TC... if you're a professional PC user then u know what i'm talking about... the power of TC is really amazing..
and this XYplorer of ur's isnt even free... rather than buy this crap i've rather use CubicExplorer that's free and pretty cool.

Nice file manager, unfortunately the author does not care about the non-german speaking customers. A translation for the help file was requested several years ago and the one thing he came up was a 'Google Translation' for the 'What's New' page in his forum. Therefore, half of the features of this file manager are still unknown for us non-german customers.

SpeedCommander has a lot of nice features, etc., but for anyone looking for a truly top notch Window Explorer replacement, you really owe it to yourselves to download and try XYplorer (xyplorer.com) It's a truly portable,
multi-tabbed file manager with options far too numerous to list here. You simply have to try it for yourself and test it's many, many capabilities. I have tried almost all of them, and XYplorer is on the top of my list by a long shot...

Well I'll agree with all the other ratings on this page. However, I will stick with TC and WNC.
Sense I have both on my PC, I use WNC more then TC.

Though both offer great features. WNC is loaded with more features. TC is like NC for DOS. Both have endless upgrades, as long as the EULA doesn't change.

The only thing I see going for this program, is it's price. However I would try others before concidering this.

I used TC when it was WC. Then I went to WNC and stuck with it.

Quote: "tc better? give me one good reason why the tc is better? "

Can you say "same functionality at a better price and free updates"* plus if you look closer at TC its quite customizable to meet your personal needs. Ok so thats two.

SC looks to be quite good, but I'll stay with TC for the price I've already paid and the developers continuing development.

I'll give it a four just because of the price.

*Edit: I noticed TC has been upped in price since I purchased. But the free updates out does a $18 upgrade everytime a major version comes out.

Hmm.
Non-standard installer.
Fast and with a nice default layout.
Quite customizable.
Nice Vista-esque path handling.
Able to open tabs in the different panes.
Very nice, clean menues that are easy to navigate.
Filters are intuitive and easy to understand, but bulky to use (you never use them because it takes longer to set the filters than find the files).
Feels more solid than xplorer2.
The compression and FTP functions are basic and somewhat limited. I'd never use them anyway, I use stand-alone programs for that.
It's far too expensive for a program like this.
To be honest you can just open two Explorer windows with folders .. for free.

I thought I'd dislike it, but I gave it 10 minutes to customize fonts and colors and whatnot and now it's really nice.

Since it's quite a mess to integrate filemanagers like this into the shell and replace Explorer (it is possible to do though) I find most filemanagers to be more of novelty value than anything else.
Still, this is one of the better file managers I've tested.

tc better? give me one good reason why the tc is better?

i dont think so and so use the newest beta and believe me you will never go back.

sorry that i dont found an english changelog but if the final will release there will be one and you will see that the new features will kill the tc and the plugins we can use since v11.

now with v12 we get like dopus a configurable status bar and much more...

It could probably include more english feedback, and a bit more of speed, but quite good job.

Very nice application, however it still needs some improvements. First, some documentation in English, since not everybody reads German. Second, possibility of adding "plugins" and Third add more kinds of servers to the FTP, specially MVS.

the best filemanager i have ever used. and i tried them all: 2xexplorer, turbonavigator, total commander... none of them reaches this app. (well, totalcommander does in features, but not in ease of use/interface)
