The only problem I've had with these packages is.
I work in real estate & a large part of my business is making virtual tours of houses and property and reviewing them before posting them on my web sites.
After I install any of these K-Lite packs, my virtual tours stop working on my machine. I've tried the configuring options on the packs & it doesn't help.
I can't uninstall and do a system restore & fix the problem, because it doesn't fix the problem. I have to wipe the drive and re-install everything.
I'd say that is a pretty big problem.
I give this 4 stars because it does what it is made to do.
If I didn't have the problem that I do, I'd give it a 5.

KLCP has specifically been designed around ffdshow. It will not "damage" performance or compatibility.
And far from installing outdated versions, KLCP is actually one of the best ways to keep ffdshow up to date.
Packaging ffdshow with complementary codecs in the manner that KLCP has does NOT degrade performance, and I defy anyone to explain why it would, much less provide proof.
Don't listen to those who only wish to spread inaccurate FUD and underrate good software in some attempt to pimp their pet player/package. Let this software stand on its own merits, of which it has plenty.
Reviewing 06/06/07 (Jun 6, 2007)

if youre going to use a codec pack, this is probably the best one. unfortunately most users are unaware that including codecs AND ffdshow degrades performance.

The explorer crashing problem is because under winxp avi previewing is turned on at default, you need to turn this off otherwise browsing divx files will make explorer crash. It's not the codec packs problem, it's a problem with windows that was never fixed.

Plus, the splash screen of the installer doesn't even know how to spell correctly. It's pathetic. I do not, nor should you, trust this installer. 24 hours after the new codec pack version release this update comes and they can't release an actual installer as usual ? or spell English on it's installer (whoever it is that made it that is)...
Anyone else have proof this is going to download an actual, genuine installer of a an update release or is someone screwing around?
Can't spell English - it's hilarious.
It sounds good,I will try
I downloaded it but my media player still says it does not have the right codecs, and when I try to open it something pops up and says there are no updates because it is not installed on my computer. Help?
