ThreatFire is an application designed to protect your computer against malware such as trojans, spyware, rootkits, keyloggers, and buffer overflows by intelligently detecting and blocking behavior consistent with that of malware. It does this by constantly monitoring your system, and analyzing programs and process activity. Whenever it detects any unusual process or activity, it will display an alert with further information on the threat. If it is a known threat, then it will automatically quarantine the malware and no further action is required on your part. If the threat is unknown, or new, then ThreatFire will display an alert and prompt you to Allow or Quarantine the process. All alerts provide detailed information to help you make an informed decision.

Worked as advertised. Have used Threatfire for awhile and have no problems with it most of the time, although for only once it failed to help me remove a really tricky problem. I have good experience with it generally and I hope that it would be better! One star off because the user interface is not good enough.

I used this program for many years and I had no issues with it, found that it did a good job of protecting my PC. The only comlaint was it's Windows 7 support. All of my programs now take 3-10 seconds longer to launch and when I asked about this, the company had no response so I switched to Avast which works great.

So give it a try, you have many options.if it doesn't work out.

I'm inclined to believe that this is program is bulls***. I installed TF about 2 weeks ago and after each periodic scan I get a pop up that indicates that there are numerous infections that would have been removed if only I had paid for the upgrade version. The last one looked like this:
    Events Analyzed
    16,655,496,584,421
    Programs Examined
    103,420,114,544
    Suspicious Activities Detected
    1,473,111,441
    Malware Blocked
    64,592,403

I circled on the "learn more" link and a window came up listing the same stats and a pay to upgrade button. Just for fun, I changed a number in the address line and the same stats popped up. I tweaked the web address line several times and always got the same stats. I'm assuming that this is the same BS they send to everyone. I'm filing it under fearware. Thumbs down!

Prior versions were great. In the past I always gave a 5 star rating. Now, the av scanner has been removed and replaced with a tab advertising PCTools AV and that you should download it. They added another tab that says "Did you know".

Come on. Why put getting started tips into the UI? Its not needed since there is a tutorial, getting started links in the tray icon and help menu. Not too mention upon install it opens a web page with the same info.

This app is now n00bware and now puts PCTools AV program in your face. What if I dont want to install it? Why have a tab in UI for it?

What about users who paid for a pro lic. that seems to be useless now?

    Reviewing 4.1.0.19 (Feb 18, 2009)

I humbly suggest that those who complain about TF slowing down their machines must be running too many background processes with too few/little resources. TF does not slow down a machine off it's own bat but may when added to a plethora of existing running processes....sort of the straw that breaks the camel's back. That does not necessarily make TF the culprit, merely a part of the problem.
I have used TF successfully on older machines running Pentium 4 CPU with 512mb RAM...no probs. The trick is to be selective with applications which include running processes.
There is no doubt in my mind TF does substantially increase overall protection when used in conjunction with traditional anti virus software....highly recommended!

another bogus to slow down your system...like horsecharles said already

there is a Vista UAC already running, and you're not logged as administrator...don't fear then.

there are NO viruses in this world (althought I understand having antivirus for casual unknown file check from unknown planet if virustotal.com isn't suficient) just stupid users and porn addicts...

get a clue (or life), there's no way a virus can attack patched Vista with latest Firefox logged as standard user in a machine behind a router...

rest of you, load antispyware, antimalware, threatfire, antivirus, better load another software HIPS firewall which won stupid (and moronic) matousec.com tests, get a serious FW router from Lynksys linked to another FW from D-Link and for security reasons unplugg your internet cable...

and don't forget to come to securityforums (Wilders one, Comodo's one, you choose) and tell other users how cool you are, what your setup is and if you should improve something about your *bulletproof* security

if you want security, call your mother stupid

ThreatFire used to be a very effective protection against new and unknown malware.
Alas, after it became a bit more popular with the users, it also showed up on the radar of the malware writers.
The result: alot of the current in-the-wild malware easily bypass ThreatFire (and all other major HIPS products out there).
It still provides good protection against alot of malware, but you shouldn't 100% rely on it and keep an eye open and your system patched (browser, Java, Flash, PDF security updates!)

I also had several serious problems with 4.0.0.8, the worst was a computer having no keyboard access anymore on Windows login screen. There was no way to fix (safe boot, recovery install, BartPE) except format+reinstalling Windows.
It also interfered with Thunderbird and Visual Studio, probably due to it's intensive user mode hooking.

Let's see if 4.0.0.10 fixes those problems, but I will need to make an image of the OS partition before I dare to install this tool again.

before you know, your system grinds to a halt.

It's overkill-- like making everyone who enters your house to submit to CONSTANT AND REPEATED frisking, running thru detector, investigating background, running bloodwork & dope tests, taping every conversation, reading all written & other contents of purse and pockets...and to boot including yourself as well...no one excepted...

So far, no problems on install, operation, or update. It's even running happily in my tray along side Ad-Watch, Avira, and Comodo v3.5 firewall. It spotted my CIV III trainer, asked, then let me run it, didn't destroy it or quarantine it. I despise protection that universally 'knows better' than the user and run wild trashing items you use, that are proven safe.

The community info pooling may well be the future of 'intelligent' spotting of threats between definition updates.

I'm about to start beta-testing Lavasoft's 2009 product (like many others of you) and I think this product may prove to be the biggest threat to AdAware I've seen yet.

But no, threatfire did not even blink. I do not know what to thing about threat fire now. Every hips shoud protect such action, but threatfire did not. Does not poorly affect system performance as it did with the last version I tried. Now includes full on-demand scan for all threats instead of just for rootkits, and a scan can be scheduled. However, the on-demand scan detected some false positives with some compiled AutoHotkey scripts. The default protection setting at 3 of 5 still seems overzealous to me, and I set it at 2 of 5.

Behavior-based anti-malware might be the future of antivirus, and Threatfire is a free offering in this regard. However, it has a dealbreaker flaw in that the "ignore" feature after a suspected risk is detected does not work well. I noticed problems even after having set certain programs to be "ignored." Ignore would stop the prompts, but the scanning would continue, and I got data corruption. More specifically, programs that produced files (AutoHotkey's compiler, Audacity 1.3 batch processing), would make corrupted files unless Threatfire was fully suspended. Until Threatfire can stop itself from interfering with the processes the user specifies, I won't be using it. On the plus side, I contacted PC Tools about these issues, and they said they would fix the bug and post about it on their forums. Once they do so, I'd be willing to re-rate Threatfire.

Short Amendment: It is not free (in fact, it's a relatively steep $29.95), but I prefer Mamutu to Threatfire-- Mamutu makes more sense to use and it doesn't (so far) interfere with my computer usage.

Threatfire (TF) is a superb behavior blocker of the HIPS genus (Host-based Intrusion Protection System). For information about this type of security program, see THIS compendium.

TF is a vital helper-app for Antivirus programs because TF will detect zero-day malware, & alert you to that fact. TF has a large community of users who contribute to TF's effectiveness.

TF is highly configurable, but runs good right out of the box, as well. TF is FREE, rock stable, & very light on resources. It is vigorously maintained, & has a very knowledgeable & friendly support forum HERE.

Why is this listed as "freeware" when the website is selling it for $14.95 per 1 year license?
Was hoping to find a little less resource-hungry replacement for SpywareTerminator (true freeware)...

Today I gave this program a test run on a system just running Armor2net, Peerguardan2, NOD32, Spyware Doctor. Now I rated this 1 out of 5 because it just hosed my system after leting it run for a few hours.

I couldn't even open up anything just hanged there and just shown me a white outline of it shell. I never seen it popup and tell me it detected a program that was installing or removing. What would happen if it was malware, but I don't see how good this is if you already have NOD32 and Spyware Doctor doing the samething for malware protection.

Just way to many programs trying to protect the system, and protecting the system to where it can't do anything just lock-up.

My rating is 1.. awful program..

I am using it along with Avira Premium, so far no high resource usage and if it delivers what its promising, thats proteciton from 0 day threats, then its a fine addition at a very little cost of resources.

Should anyone be surprised at this program slowing down their computer? After all, it is from the same company who produce Spyware Doctor.
This program like SD does the job but without stopping the constant scanning it undoubtedly slows to a crawl on many systems.

I have to give this app a 5. It provides great protection against various types of malware and malicious programs.

The ability to create advanced rules adds an extra layer of safety.

Disregaurding the bad reviews to this program. I two have used it in the past. I didn't at all once or ever, run slow.

How ever it isn't slim by a long shot. Great programs deserve great reviews. I think this program is awesome.

I reviewed this a while back as "4+" but since then it has gotten bigger & slower. There is now a non-free version as well as a free version. It's still a good security app but it needs to stay fast & slim to remain on my box.

I have to agree with RejZoR -- Cyberhawk provides excellent protection now, and it is getting better & better & better.

I would rate it 4.8, but decimal points aren't allowed. ^_^

    @ZenWarrior
I hope you do realize that you've been throwing adware/spyware at it. Behavior analyzers are mainly focused on worms, trojans and (partially) viruses. Adware and stuff is just an extra goodie but you can't really expect a behavior analyzer to do the job of dedicated signature anti-spyware or antivirus?
Besides, there is no signature updater mechanism so it takes long for them to update it as it only comes with the program update itself.

As of the program itself, it has a great potential. Some false positives and compatibility problems here and there but in general it's easy to use and does the job very well. And it's free.
4/5 for now but i'm sure i'll be soon able to give them 5/5. We just got their team to Wilders Security and i've been in contact with them for quiet some time now. Just track this tool, it's worth it.

I have used Cyberhawk for several week. It installed flawlessly in the beginning, and all subsequent updates have installed equally well. It has a very small footprint. Lighter than a feather. It is simple to use/administer, even for noobs.

CH is a behavior analyzer. Therefore, it gives superb protection against zero-day exploits and, as such, is an excellent side-arm for one's antivirus+firewall combo.

As to so-called testing by amateurs, it would be best to learn HOW to test a behavioral-based HIPS. The proponents of CH have provided a manual for those who wish to do that. Get it Yonder.

If you are using Kaspersky AV don't even try this it will freeze your computer. Kaspersky 6 has application behavior blocking anyway, With other AV I experienced no problems but its hard to tell how effective it is unless you get some spyware that wants to run on your computer. It is a beta so I assume it will get better

I will repeat what has been said before, THIS IS NOT AN ANTI VIRUS, I find what CyberHawk does is far more useful than any antivirus I have used. A vast majority of attacks bypass the standard antivirus and maliware gaurds due to there, if it is not on the list allow it, policy.

I have no problem with giving this a 5 star rating.

Good idea to offer an anti-malware solution that is free, but please....don't claim to be the *only* av program in the world to offer advanced heuristics. NOD32 has had it for ages now, and many others do as well.

I will use this for a while and see if it holds up. For a trusted solution that promises the same, check out NOD32 (Eset.com). Faster, more reliable, and less intruisive than the McAfee/NAV ilk.
