I can't believe he still makes this thing. Or does he? I've always used CPU-Z, which is better in every way.

There's no point for this software to exist when you can download the vastly superior CPU-Z application for free.

Psychlone

Psychlone reviewed vBE 1.0.0.4 Beta 4 Build 12058 on May 14, 2008

Rating a 3 for optimistic future.

Currently, this software doesn't support my Phenom 9850BE...can't change *any* settings whatsoever, or any settings that aren't blacked-out don't 'stick'.

Also, since I have Cool n Quiet running on my computer - CPid erroneously shows my overclock as ~800MHz less than actual, and doesn't show the correct values for Core0-3 and their respective voltages - for both when it's at full load (and thus FULL MHz/Voltage) as well as idle (low FID/VID and lower MHz)

GUI is nice with tabs at the bottom and I like black ;)

This program has some potential if some of these things could be addressed...currently, there are no software applications that will help with overclocking/tweaking/fine-tuning aside from the AMD Overclock Utility - which crashes my system anyway. I hope this one can do what it needs to in the near future!

LOL! Kid, you even know that CBID supports unofficial 100MHz, 300MHz and 500MHz HTL transitions! Your bad you forget to remind people that CBId can also change an HT multiplier which cannot be changed by your favorite Z-toy. All that features are really implement in CBId and work very well. Please don’t post here again your bull s*** about DMI. One clown has already posted, don’t be the second. CBId has never shown any info on the motherboard. You are too young to know how to determinate the information about the hardware. Now go to home and say hello to your mammy.

Can’t detect the HyperTransport link frequency at 100MHz, 300MHz, 500MHz. Can’t change HT, FID and VID multiplier. Can’t change a memory clock ratio, can’t change DRAM timings, doesn’t reads a current CPU temperature, doesn’t support AMD Family 10h processors at all. Shows only poor common information on the CPU and the motherboard (using the oldest DMI interface).

Another liar has posted stupid comments! LOL! Administraighter, do you know that CBId doesn’t show any info on the system? How it could display it for you when it is designed for the processor only? LIAR! Another your bluff is that CBId crashes “1/2 the time”. LOL! This statement is already unpopular, because since version 8.0.0.0 the program uses a new stabile driver based on Microsoft’s driver SDK! Please, tell that falsehood your mammy, but don’t post it here! Shame upon you!

Administraighter, don’t lie never, because a liar smells specifically than a truthful man! Also, I would like to present people my "Top5 of liars and haters of CBId". So, here it is:

I don't like the look of CBID, but I could overlook that. What I dislike the most is how the info displayed is all screwed up on my system, and how CBID crashes 1/2 the time when I start it.

Fortunately, CPU-Z works well for me. Apparently, CPU-Z was made by someone who has better things to do than come here and launch ad-hominem attacks at people who make legitimate criticism of his 1-hour-per-month programming project.

I coudn't imagine that among people there are persons which could hate CBId’s GUI. Is it really so ugly? I dare say, cricri_pingouin has something personal against developing of CBId. And I think cricri_pingouin is really able to found the first International Penguin-Club of CBId Haters and could become a president of it. :)) cricri_pingouin is a talented and honest commentator at fileforum.betanews.com I have never seen! I love how BrainJunk is constantly posting desperate and ill-constructed responses to legitimate criticisms of this software, in an attempt to keep its rating out of the toilet.

I have always hated the look of this utility as well. Am I American? Or Spanish? Maybe Finnish? Icelandic? Make a custom shareware version for me! That way, I can post a negative review here and on the shareware version!

To: cricri_pingouin

Man, CBId is software specific for AMD processors only. You may have Intel, Cyrix, VIA, Transmeta, IBM and other processors, but CBId designed for AMD ONLY. As I see, you can’t understand that simple conception. There is a lot of software that works with specific hardware only, e.g. Epox USDM, ASUS PC Probe, AMD CPUInfo, nVidia nTune and so on. CBId is from the same software category.

If you don’t like CBId’s customized look, please delete it and forget it. We do not accept ridiculous ideas from persons like you. But if you need CBId with another GUI you have to pay for that! Besides, we will create CBId as a shareware for all Americans, but for Russians CBId remains the best free piece of software for CPU identification purposes, because they never have such biassed attitude to it. CBId is a freeware and will always look like we want.

cricri_pingouin

cricri_pingouin reviewed v8.3.0.0 Build 0608 R1 on Jun 15, 2007

As I said somewhere else, I don't setup my Windows machine with my own customised theme for developers to overide my liberty of this choice and imposing whatever look they think I will like better. In a nutshell, I do NOT want your customised look, I want it to look like just any of the other programs I'm running.
Besides, if you are to provide a useful tool for users, your partiality shouldn't come into the equation: I have AMD CPUs myself, but I'd also want to be able to run this tool on Intel machines. Since it cannot, I'll keep on using CPU-Z as everyone else.

But anyone who doesn't know or worry about all the crap that gets left behind by applications like this has my sympathy. Those are the people who are astonished that anyone can go for several years without needing to reinstall Windows.

3 years ago, I bought an AMD Athlon XP T-Bred 2000+.

After running it for one month (not continuously), the PC could no longer boot. The technician said there was a problem with the MSI K7T Turbo2 motherboard.

As the motherboard was under warranty, I got a replacement for it; an identical brand and model.

Few days ago, this motherboard died. As it was no longer under warranty anymore, I was advised to buy a new motherboard and RAM (as my old SDRAMs can no longer be used). I agreed.

My house has 2 more PCs which are using the same processor except that both were bought from a different shop than the problematic one said above. What I do not understand is how come the same PC has had motherboard changed twice within 3 years whereas the other 2 PCs had not.

I then checked the BIOS of all PCs, check the temperature. To my suprise, the problematic PC's processor temperature shot up to 73 degrees Celcius. I was saying WHAT THE F***!!!

The other two PCs recorded 56 and 50 degrees. I then recalled AMD created 2 different cores; Palomino (0.18 micron) and Thoroughbred (0.13 micron) core for the Athlon XP 2000+. The smaller micron, the newer technology, the cooler it is.

I then downloaded this program to verify the core of the processor. I found out the problematic PC had Palomino core. No offence to this core but I remember that the shop quoted me the price of T-Bred processor so I got a fake thing.

I suspected the processor was the one that burnt the board. Damn it!!!

Thanks to this program for helping me identify this mystery.

"I hate Intel! CBId will never identify its processors!" Well that sure is an intelligent reason. So basically this program is for fanboys. Whatever, I don't base my opinion of a utility on whether it supports only hardware I "like". That's an idiotic reason in my opinion. This also seems to put a lot of garbage on your system. I do have an AMD CPU but I still think this program is lacking. Nothing I have found is better than CPU-Z.

Why the F)($# would you name a CPU id utility something like "Central Brain Identifier"?

If you were trying to make it harder for users to find your product, BULLSEYE! The next step would be to re-write the product to do something completely different, such as automatically download a whole bunch of lame spam/spy/crap-ware and install them in random locations on your PC.

Keep up the good work! I especially like it that this program only works on Athlon CPUs. Ooops, I mean Athlon "Central Brains."

Man, don’t be silly! I repeat once again, your arguments are not convincing. Are you so sensitive like a girl that the presence of the CBID’s driver disturb you to work or your Windoze works slower? Man, do you always check the presents of files or entries in the system registry after every software de-installation? Don’t be like a clown! I guess you have something personal against Central Brain Identifier.

If you use 120 dpi and CBId shows not so correctly, please delete it. Besides, as I see, you don’t like it at all. Frankly speaking, I have never seen a man like you, who is ready to tear to shreds the Central Brain Identifier.

Umm, excuse me, but CBid *does* create registry entries. They're the registry entries that point to the DRIVER it installs--without user notification--and then provides no way to remove. However, I understand that this is technical information that only advanced users like me would be aware of.

And yes, leaving drivers installed can become a problem. If I left every driver installed, from every lousy utility like this that I tried, my system would no longer boot. But since I keep track of such *important* things, my system runs perfectly. I understand that this cannot be "convincing" to someone who doesn't understand it. That's fine.

Good applications account for a variety of DPI settings. Windows allows users to change DPI settings for a reason. If you're visually impaired, you can't use CBid, without it looking messed up? Nice.

As for the title bar, well there is no good reason whatsoever to mess with that, and prevent window-hooking applications from being compatible with it. And oh, those evil minimize buttons!

This is my review. Deal with it.

Your arguments are lame! Note, 96 dpi is a Windows standard for screen fonts. And if you are using non-standard scale ratio than that is your problem. Your are dissatisfied, because you know CBId is functionally much better than a proggy of a Frenchman. Besides, you, man, disorient users, because CBId doesn't write anything to the system registry. CBId has CBIdCfg.ini file and all settings are stored in it.

The fonts don't display correctly at 120 DPI. And the stupid cutesy title bar defeats applications like WinShade, which is totally unnecessary, and inconvenient for me.

It also does a nice job installing files that are totally unnecessary (such as installing TVicHW32.vxd in the Windows system directory, even on Win2K/XP systems), and it leaves the files and associated registry entries behind, since there is no uninstall. Cute.

Their web site has "Sorry, an Internal Error occurred." and "file is not found" all over it.. that plus the last few reviews says this program probably isn't the best thing to install on my system. I don't usually rate a program that I haven't actually installed, this is the exception. If they can't run a web site and handle errors a little better, they shouldn't release their program.

1 star is already too much for a software which gaves a blue screen. Running an Athlon 64 3000+. When looking the ArKay74 case and mine, it seems that CBId does not support AMD 64bit processors.

the removal of the close button from the earlier releases is an anoyance, just press ESC and the program closes. I hav an XP2800 running at 2.5Ghz and it doesn't see my chip as anything. I meen the section is just blank. Other progams see the chip as an AMD2500MhZ.

I am sure the author of the software worked hard and diligently on this program, and should be thanked for making it available to us. If this is part of his education and submitting it for the ritualistic "Thank you Sir, may I have another?!", Bravo.

But sometimes you have to ask yourself,"is this REALLY needed?" I must have a half a dozen programs that give me the same data and more.

Keep writing Man, it's people like you that invariably make the really cool free/shareware of tomorrow. I give you a 4 on principal alone.

note that this will show the Processor OPN number which is handy if you've already put your heatsink on your CPU but wondered what variant it was "AXDA" "AGOGA" etc in the case of AMD cpu. Havent seen this in Aida32 or WCPUID [recently]

Just what we need, another program that does this.

This program looks like a combination of WCPUID and CPU-Z (both can be found here on FileForum). Also, WCPUID and CPU-Z have been out much longer and WCPUID is almost considered a "standard" in the measurment of CPU speed, at least in the overclocking world.
