   Review - Locate

   I've tried all the desktop search engines ... They took several days to index my multiple large drives. Maybe they are more powerful in some way (I don't know - always uninstalled them because of the excessive indexing time), but this one does what I want: tell me whether I have a file (partial names are OK) and tell me where it is.
   
   Even with 10 drives, 5 of which are 400gb or larger, the indexing process takes less than an hour and a search gives almost instantaneous results.

   Review - Where Is It?

   It has been a year since I reviewed WhereIsIt? and I still believe this is one of the best apps I've ever encountered. Now, however, I have to, very reluctantly, modify my comments about the author's responsiveness. I reported a crash in WhereIsIt which was not the fault of WhereIsIt, but I did not know that. There was a problem with how one of the plugins responded to a file on a disk I was attempting to scan. Mr. Galle replied (very promptly!), with the tone of a strict teacher scolding a recalcitrant and very lazy and stupid student.
   
   Fortunately I've only rarely felt the need to contact the author in the past so I won't miss that source of support very much.
   
   I think having a user support forum for WhereIsIt? is an excellent idea. I know it has taken the load off the authors of several of my other favorite apps. They are active on the forums, but only NEED to respond to the issues they feel is worth their time. I'd suggest this to Mr. Galle directly, but I can't remember where I put my asbestos suit.

   WhereIsIt? has to be the most elegant, flexible and bug-free shareware application I have ever registered. I've used it for quite a few years now and find it to be indispensable.
   
   Whether you want to keep track of the files on your hard drives, your collection of digital photographs or your vast CD & DVD collection, this application will fill the bill and more.
   
   The author is very responsive, and in my experience, is great at guessing what the cause of your reported problem might be even when you haven't given him all the information a normal mortal might need.

   To krgood: One file manager I have tried (and registered) which does virtually everything one could desire, including display of details based on file extension, is xplorer2 professional. There's a free version, too, but I haven't investigated what features it has. The link is: http://zabkat.com/.    Oh, this is tragic. I have to think some demon has targeted the apps I've preferred and invested my time and data in for destruction. First it was Paradox. Dead. Paint Shop Pro. Dead.. now WinDVD.
