This program is okay and forms part if the 1ClickDVD family but I think this program its a bit lacking considering the price. There isn't a CD-Text option and (unless something has recently changed) there is no option to verify data. I think there arte better options out there

I gave this 5 start because i tried many burning programs in my laptop, and so many failed (they burned coasters), but this one has succeeded to burn every time working CD / DVD. I use very cheap bulk media, which can be the cause that some programs fail (Roxio Creator 2009, Complex Evolution, Easy Cd-Da Extractor). But this program does what it promises and it is very light on resources and extremely reliable. Also the program is so easy to use that there is no learning curve.

I once purchased a Gold member key for VSO, and got licenses for all their programs. I haven't had any regrets of my purchase. (Other VSO programs like convertXtoDVD for example, are top class as well.)

This has to be the quickest, easiest, most versatile burning program. I can't imagine any program being more hassle free. My favorite features is the right click context menu, and the 1 click image burning. It's a bit expensive, but if you are careful, you can find good discounts.

This appears to be a good burning program with a couple of very nice features, however I just cannot justify the $35 price difference over CDBurnerXP or ImgBurn. To make matters worse, VSO's upgrade policy is free updates/upgrades for one year.

Were you using a crack? The software might check your key against a blacklist, or, if a checksum of the executable fails, deliberately write coasters. The fact that they pass verification makes me even more suspicious.
My apologies if this is not the case.

I must apologise for my previous review. CopyToDVD always worked fine for me but both this version and the last version I reviewed seemed to write data, and even verified (!), but the data written contains no information (video files seek wihout a timecode, like a 'fake' media file, and cannot be repaired with header-repairers like 'MPEG-corrector').

I'm sorry to say I've never had such a data-unsafe burning program as the last 2 versions of CopyToDVD. If you try this program, check your burnt files execute OK, don't just verify/copy!

Right-click DVD burning is something you'll wish you discovered ages ago, I use it all the time now!

I must protest at the review which claimed you need to renew subscription annually. I bought copytodvd over 2 years ago, before version 4, and when v4 came along VSO just emailed me an updated serial number (no charge), which has worked for every version since.

Give the trial a go!

Problem solved! :-)

Note to the Author: A little more testing before releasing something that can hose the Windows kernel!

1. It's interesting how each of the relatively negative reviews I've written about BlindWrite over the past couple years have been removed. Gotta love this site.

2. "vcorvinus", you are obviously associated with dieselsoft.com, since they charge $31.49 for what may or may not be a legitimate license for BlindWrite, yet if it is purchased directly, it can be had for only $30.00, by default. And if you enter the coupon code "discount", as they plainly display on their web site, you get a direct 10% discount! Let's see... $31.49 from a third-party, or $27.00 direct... Hmmm, tough choice! So much for your "10% discount"!

Simply the best. Light, compact, and just the right features. Very convenient 1-click context menu data and music burning. Also 1 click ISO burning. I'm always amazed by clicking an ISO image, and simply walking away. When I return, the disk is burned and the program has closed itself. No layers of menus to navigate is priceless. It also has good media copying using BlindWrite. The only downside is that it does not copy encrypted media. Oh well, that's a specialty in itself.

Why oh why buy this when you can buy Clone DVD or other programs that won't expire in one year?

Sorry but VSO Software's policy of having to buy their programs every year to continue to receive updates regardless if its a new version or not really rubs me the wrong way.

VSO will tell you that if you do not choose to renew your license every year that you can still use the original program version for as long as you wish. In my experience this is not true.

I have bought both BlindWrite and PhotoDVD from VSO in the past and burned the original downloads and license key emails to CD. I recently tried to reinstall these programs because i got a new computer and got a "Expired License Key" message for both programs. So if you choose to buy software from this company do so at your own risk.

I will probably get flamed for this review of VSO but I'm just trying to warn other users they are throwing their good money away unless they are willing to pay an annual fee to continue to use VSO programs.

4wd reviewed v6.0.0.18 on Sep 15, 2006

dougau: You are wrong - keys are valid for ANY release of the product you bought within one year of purchase. The keys do NOT expire after one year - you can reinstall your original purchase, (and any upgrades that happened within a year), using your original key. That's why my 2 year-old key still works on any version of BlindWrite 5 because I purchased v4 just before v5 came out.

On to the program: it does it's best at making a bit -for-bit replica of the media while trying to take away much of the fiddly options associated with doing the job - i.e. copy with SD4, SecureROM , etc, parameters.

However, I'd like to see some way of being able to tweak it's engine, (for those that want to), to get the best out of it.

dougau

dougau reviewed v6.0.0.17 on Jul 28, 2006

After one year the license keys for ANY VSO Software are invalid and you must purchase a new key in order to even reinstall the version you already have. For this reason I recommend all steer clear of this company.

In contrast I am still able to download and install the latest version of Alcohol 120%!!

Blindwrite doesn't really stand out in the competitive arena that this type of program resides in. It's a good alternative and not overly bloated. The gui is idiosyncratic, skinnable and hides a very powerful engine.
RE: registration. You should have a reg key (might be given a .b5l extension which you can rename to .reg). You should be able to double click on this and import it into the registry. From then on, blindwrite should be registered. But, I've refrained from updating, fearing the consequences and it might be that registration key times out 1 year after the key is first entered and blindwrite run for the first time.
I've found the registration policy unfair and being annual, too exp****ve to renew. Point releases should remain free with a modest upgrade fee for new versions.

Their website states:
"To update a registered version, overwrite your version with the latest trial and your license will be retained."

This simply isn't true. I downloaded and installed the latest version and my choices are to buy or run the trial version for the next 20 days.

NO I am not going to repurchase the product.

It's a great program. I paid for a copy here at betanews and was sent a registration number to type in to activate the program. (BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART!) THIS PROGRAM IS NOT ACTIVATED THIS WAY!) I should have went to the Blindwrite homepage and paid for it there; so I have learned the hard way. Blindwrite sends you a zip file that you have to run and then it automatically activates Blindwrite for you. I have never heard of this type of registration before, but Blindwrite does it that way. Now I have to go to Blindwrite and buy the program all over again!

Excellent piece of software. Does everything you need for data disks from the context menu in Windows Explorer. Smallest "all in 1" burner that really works. DIRKES: No software that I know of will delete selected files when importing sessions. CopyToDVD works just like the rest of the good CD-DVD burners. Only downside is the price. US40.00 is way too high when Nero comes free with most burners.

DIRKES

DIRKES reviewed v3.0.51 on Apr 6, 2005

I detect, that it is a little bit complicated, if you want write files to a CD, if a older session exist. You can not "easy" and with a logic way import older sessions, you cannot delete selected files from a older session.

Brrrrrrilllliant!

Closest thing to 1 stop CD and DVD burning in a reasonably small package. I really like burning data from the context menu. Only a rudimentary burning dialog pops up, which is all you need, right? Keep the bloat down and keep improving, and you have a truly great product!

I have to say, for what I use it for, it does a good job. I like it's "no brainer" approach. Just right click on a folder full of files and burn to disk. No prompts, wizards or menus, it just does it. Or, if I have an ISO of a DVD, just right click and it burns the ISO to disc as a DVD. It's smart and easy.

For anything else more complex than that I do use Nero, though.

I'm a paid owner of this program but I wish I never bought it. While the actual burning seems to work reasonable well (but not as well as Nero) I've had a hair pulling experience with its context menu feature. It took me the longest time to figure out what was screwing up my menus when I right-clicked and it turned out to be this program. Half the time my context menus would go to full screen. Other times all the lines would be squished together. And a simple uninstall would not fix it. I had to remove every last VSO-related registry entry and remaining service (that its uninstall refused to uninstall) in order to get my system back to normal. Never again.

I wish they would once and for all fix a problem with sending a folder to CD. If you "Right Click A Folder -> CopyToDVD" causes all the files in that folder to dump out to the CD ROOT. BUT if you "Right Click A Folder -> CopyToDVD Depot", and then open the Depot, the folder is PROPERLY placed on the CD ROOT. I have mentioned this to them many times, but they do not care, and say it may be repaired in the next major (v3) release. When I asked how long till that release shows up (3 months ago), lapinou (who actually seems to work for them) says 2 months - ya sure. (I have been telling them about this since it went to v2 - and changed its name from CopyToCD).
And as another BUG - when writing to an image file, you are not prompted for a label name, or if it's set to Auto-Assign a label, the label still does not get written to the ISO file.
A BUG is a BUG - fix it for crying out loud. If they would fix this - then I would give it 5 stars.
And now there is a version 2.4.7 Released 25th of December 2003 (still with all the bugs I just described).

Not exactly sure what you are talking about rotjong. You made look at your installation of ExplorerPlus or some other cause of your problem. I right-click on the file and choose "Copy to DVD" and a small dialog box comes up to choose my destination and it just goes. SMall, short and sweet. If I choose "Copy to DVD Depot" nothing comes up until I start the Copy to DVD icon and the files show up in the Depot. Not sure what you are referring to that is "filling your entire screen." This program is excellent in what is does and reduces the complexity of burning audio CD's and movie DVD's. A sold "5".

I'd love to give this program a great rating but, sadly, I cannot. Firstly, the context-menu item in Windows Explorer is poorly done. Second, when I would access context-menus after installing I found the menus would take up the entire screen sometimes [when they never had ever before]. Erm. Third, suddenly ExplorerPlus and/or Windows Explorer started crashing when they never did before. I removed the software and experimented and the problems have completely vanished. I really really wish I could rate this high (5) because the features on paper are awesome and I did burn one data DVD with the program and it worked perfectly. The authors need to work on the Windows Explorer integration because it sucks at the moment, IMO. I have to give this a 1 rating because it made my system unstable due to the issues I experienced.

As good as ever.. Few niggling little points (to trivial to mention here really) which I'm sure will be ironed out soon...

As for "thoomass'" so-called review. All I can say is that your views are those of an inmature moron. Just because you had the 'blue screen of death' doesn't mean that it's Blindwrites fault exclusively. It means it's drivers *may* be conflicting with something already on your system. It may mean there is possibly something amiss with your hardware. In short it could be a hundred things, but clearly you are either too lazy, too stupid or downright retarded. To say Blindwrite "is a destructive trojan disguided as a copy utility" is complete and utter rubbish...

Clone CD has moved from elby.com to slysoft.com

there IS a new update, released 2 days ago (to version 4.3.16) with better support for new copy protections.

http://www.slysoft.com/d...oad/changes_clonecd.txt

here you can get the changes.

CloneCD is fine, but can't burn all kinda ISOs you find all over the net, so just go and buy 2 programs. Alcohol and CloneCD, maybe even BlindWrite.

now 2 blindwrite:

The program is not really usable for beginners, but has a large (larger as CloneCD) set of options so you can get more copyProtections bypassed IF YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO.

I hadn't a crash with the demo yet so i think it is worth the money buying it.

unger71: there's a reason why clonecd doesn't update... the program works 98% of the times whilst i had a few cd's with bigfiles that BW couldn't handle and CCD went through it like a hot knife through butter. But hey, everybody's gotta have a favorite... and mine is still CCD. 4/5 nonetheless.

By far the best image burning software out there. I can burn many things that no other program can.

Blindwrite is good and i actually used it for a long time for my cd copying however i think clone cd has a better easier interface than blind write plus it also includes a clonedrive so you can run cd's right off your harddrive. But even Clone cd cant copy all cd's prefectly. My absolute favorie cd ripping/writing suite is Alcohol 120%. It is the best out there. Multi format reading and writing plus a multiformat virtual-drive. For the best results everyone get ALCOHOL 120%.

some of comments illustrate about how much people can tell stupid things. I agree to confess alcohol is better in some case, but clonecd is completely outdated betweens age, and if some people complains about number of release, maybe it is just because people of vso-software take care of the product and add new features ( see the plextor premium support ). it doesn't mean bug, but new features or functions or optimization. whatever the comments as it depends also of the hardware used. the program become better and better the new major version will correct all the problem about interface and difficult to understand option. a 5 star products !

The problem is that the site displayed here, http://www.blindwrite.com/, is outdated. The proper site is http://www.vso-software.fr/, where you can find the following changelog (which is a bit short, okay :)

24th of June 2003
New version of Blindwrite and Autoplay drivers. ( Update recommended )
Blindwrite 4.5.2
- Fixed a flaw in autoplay driver that may cause crash when devices where removed by surprise.
- Fixed some detection issues in Win9X/ME version of the autoplay driver

Every time a new release, but the author(s) do not write HERE, was is new. - Then, this version works not correctly with my LG-Combo DVD/RW drive. I test it with CloneCD, it works fine. So I think, that this version of BlindWrite has other faults have got there instead of fault remedying.

Blindwrite copies some things Alcohol/Clone CD cannot. Likewise Alcohol copies things Blindwrite cannot. DiskJuggler copies some things that all 3 cannot copy (in reality, clonecd is the easiest to use but copys the fewest number of CD's perfectly). It's all about using the right tool for the job, and currenly none of them do it all.

Every time a new revision; that mean, that the software was badly programs or without consideration. If I see the tool 'CloneCD' i see, that the author make it better.

it's definitely second choice, after clonecd. much better than alcohol (alcohol behaves weirdly in many cases, destruction of your system is possible, even probable). the best combination is either clonecd+daemon tools or blindwrite+daemon tools.
Plus consider that blindread is cheaper than clonecd, as it seems, so this makes it first choice.
if you have the right burner, blindwrite suite should cope with all copy protections apart from tages, starforce, and newest securom (maybe even newest securom would work, but that's unprobable)

This software isn't bad, but I'll stick with CloneCD for copys and Nero for data.

Wonderfull !! you can build your own cd burning software !
I really appreciated the way the MP3 output is managed... when the MP3 list if long, it burns as data, when the list is short It prompt for an audio CD ! Nice job !

If you want the whole download, go to the homepage. These developers have created EAC & CDRWin without the somersaults to get the prog to work. The fully functional trialware (thru 12/15) makes perfect copies. Check to see if your hardware is supported. Most hardware is, BTW. This is software that I'd pay full price for. This might be a "must have".

this one is excelent. thank God i wont have to use WB, that damn resource hog. i hope these guys come out with more themes, cause i really hate that blue aqua. other than that, i looks even better than Luna (square corners when maximixed, what Luna should have done).
